Kerala: Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for a 50 MW Floating Solar Project in West Kallada, Kerala, developed by NHPC Limited, a leading Navratna CPSE, under the Solar Park Scheme of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India. The project, with an investment of over ₹260 crore, is part of a larger infrastructure initiative worth over ₹10,800 crore in Ernakulam, supporting the government’s vision of “Viksit Keralam – Viksit Bharat.”

Boosting India’s Clean Energy Goals

During the event, PM Modi highlighted the importance of the floating solar project in advancing India’s clean energy targets and promoting a sustainable, low-carbon future. He also lauded India’s achievement in entering the top ten solar energy-producing nations globally.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need for more floating solar projects in Kerala to efficiently harness renewable energy while minimizing land usage.

Significance of the Project

The 50 MW floating solar project is expected to:

  • Significantly increase India’s renewable energy capacity
  • Promote innovative solar deployment on water bodies, reducing land footprint
  • Strengthen NHPC’s leadership in renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure

The initiative aligns with the broader government push for green energy adoption and reflects India’s commitment to climate-friendly infrastructure development.
