Barcelona/Bhopal: On the third day of his official visit to Spain, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav met with Mr. Jaime Duch Guillot, Foreign Minister of the Catalonia Government. The meeting, held in Barcelona, marked a significant milestone in Madhya Pradesh‘s expanding international outreach and focused on fostering academic, economic, and cultural cooperation between the two regions.
Academic Partnerships: Bridging Indian Excellence with European Innovation
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav proposed stronger academic and research collaboration between IIT Indore, IISER Bhopal, and leading universities in Barcelona. Highlighting the state’s growing profile in research and innovation, Dr. Yadav emphasized Madhya Pradesh’s ambition to evolve into a world-class academic and technological hub.
Mr. Guillot supported the proposal and recognized India and the European Union as regional powers that must collaborate on multilateral platforms like the World Trade Organization (WTO) to uphold a rule-based global order.

Catalonia Invited to Invest in Madhya Pradesh’s Growth Story
Extending a warm invitation to Catalonia’s top businesses, CM Yadav outlined vast opportunities in food processing, textiles, and renewable energy sectors in Madhya Pradesh. He cited the state’s new industrial policy, robust logistics infrastructure, and its dynamic youth workforce as compelling reasons for European investors to view Madhya Pradesh as a prime destination.
New Horizons in Sports, Culture, and Tourism
The Chief Minister explored possible collaborations with the FC Barcelona Foundation on programs that promote sports, leadership, and life skills. He also proposed a joint tourism campaign to promote Madhya Pradesh’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Sanchi, Khajuraho, and Bhimbetka across Europe.
To further boost cultural diplomacy, Dr. Yadav suggested stronger collaboration in the fields of cinema, performing arts, literature, and museum exchange programs.
Smart Cities and Green Development: Scope for Technical Partnership
Dr. Yadav also called for technical cooperation in areas where Catalonia has demonstrated global leadership — such as smart cities, urban mobility, and green infrastructure. He proposed the formation of a Joint Working Group to identify and implement strategic bilateral projects.

Mr. Guillot echoed this sentiment, stating that India and the European Union must work hand-in-hand to promote global stability and uphold an international rules-based order.
