Indore: On the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav laid the foundation for the much-awaited AMRUT 2.0 Indore Water Supply Project (Package-1), with an estimated cost exceeding Rs 800 crore. The foundation-laying ceremony took place at Lata Mangeshkar Auditorium around 3:15 PM, marking a significant step towards strengthening Indore’s water infrastructure and meeting the city’s future water demands.
Makar Sankranti and a Message of Progress
Addressing the gathering, CM Dr. Yadav said, “Makar Sankranti is not just a festival; it symbolizes the resolve to progress step by step. Just as the sun rises and spreads light, Indore continues to advance on the path of development, innovation, and progress.” He highlighted that Indore has emerged as India’s fastest-developing city, excelling in development, cleanliness, industry, trade, and good governance, becoming a model for other districts in Madhya Pradesh.
Focus on Clean Water and Infrastructure
The AMRUT 2.0 project will modernize and secure Indore’s water supply system. Key components include:
- A new intake well at Jalud and Gram Bhakalay with a capacity of 1,650 MLD
- Raw water and clear water pumping mains of 2,235 mm diameter
- Substations at 11 kV, 33 kV, and 132 kV for uninterrupted electricity supply
- A modern water treatment plant with a capacity of 400 MLD
- Break pressure tanks of 12 MLD capacity for water pressure balancing
The project includes 10 years of operations and maintenance, ensuring sustainable and high-quality water supply for Indore’s current and future needs. Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav praised the CM’s vision, noting that the project’s cost has been expanded from Rs 1,100 crore to Rs 2,400 crore to meet the city’s long-term requirements.

Response to Bhagirathpura Water Contamination
CM Dr. Yadav also addressed the recent Bhagirathpura contaminated water incident, expressing deep sympathy for the affected families. He said the government, municipal authorities, and administration had worked with full commitment to assist citizens during the crisis. He criticized the opposition, stating, “Political opportunism during tragedies will not be accepted by the people of Indore. Constructive criticism is welcome, but politics over pain is unacceptable.”
Narmada Water Projects and Regional Development
Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya highlighted Indore’s journey to secure Narmada water, describing it as a historic public movement. He emphasized that Narmada water projects are the result of public will and determination, enabling Indore to achieve its present developmental stature. Vijayvargiya also praised Indore’s citizen participation in cleanliness drives, calling it a model for the nation.
CM Dr. Yadav further remarked on the importance of regional water projects, including Parwati–Kalisindh–Chambal and Ken–Betwa river linking, which he said would benefit Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. He reiterated the government’s commitment under the Jal Jeevan Mission to provide safe drinking water to every village and city.

Before the ceremony, CM Dr. Yadav paid homage by offering floral tributes at the statues of Maa Narmada, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and Lata Mangeshkar.
