Bhopal: In a significant move towards wildlife conservation and welfare, the Madhya Pradesh Tiger Foundation Society and Greens Zoological Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre Society signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today at the Chief Minister’s residence in Bhopal.
The MoU, exchanged in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, marks a historic step in collaborative efforts for the rehabilitation, protection, animal health, and welfare of wildlife housed in zoos, rescue centers, and safari parks across the state.
Key Objectives of the MoU:
- Joint Initiatives: Both organizations will collaborate on wildlife conservation and welfare programs, with a focus on improving the care and rehabilitation of animals in captivity.
- Support for Ujjain Safari Project: Technical assistance and skill development programs will be launched to support the upcoming zoo-cum-safari park in Ujjain. This includes specialized training for forest staff, veterinarians, and elephant handlers (mahouts).
- Veterinary Infrastructure: The MoU outlines the joint development of advanced veterinary hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, and wildlife health rescue infrastructure.
- Research & Genetic Analysis: The partnership will enable access to molecular genetic analysis laboratories provided by Greens Zoological Centre to support evidence-based conservation and management, particularly for zoo-held tiger populations (Panthera tigris).
- Digital Zoo Management: An integrated digital Zoo Management Information System will be designed and developed to modernize zoo operations in Madhya Pradesh.
- Wildlife Disease Prevention: Collaborative research will be initiated to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of wildlife diseases.
Duration & Governance
The MoU will remain in force for a period of two years. During this time, Greens Zoological Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre will also provide technical protocols, veterinary standards, and welfare guidelines to the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department.
