Patna: Muzaffarpur is set for a major road infrastructure upgrade, with a 4.50-km six-lane road planned between Chandni Chowk and Ramdayalu Nagar at a cost of ₹44.76 crore.
The project is expected to provide long-term relief to thousands of commuters who face heavy traffic congestion on the busy route. Officials said the required permissions from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and other departments have been completed, clearing the way for construction.
NHAI Clearance Completed
Road Construction Department Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal said all NHAI-related formalities for the project have been completed. The NHAI Project Director and PIU-Muzaffarpur have issued the required No Objection Certificate through letter No. 701.
With the necessary approvals in place, the road widening and upgradation work can now move forward.

Relief From Traffic Congestion
The Chandni Chowk–Ramdayalu Nagar stretch handles thousands of vehicles every day and regularly experiences heavy congestion. Its expansion into a six-lane road is expected to improve traffic flow and reduce delays.
The upgraded road could also help commuters save travel time and fuel, while better road infrastructure is expected to contribute to a reduction in road accidents.
Better Connectivity for Local Areas
The project is expected to improve connectivity for residents and strengthen access to commercial areas along the route. Officials said the upgraded road will support smoother movement of vehicles and contribute to Muzaffarpur’s wider urban development.
The project is therefore being viewed not only as a road-widening exercise but also as an important step towards strengthening the city’s transport infrastructure.
