NHPC Appoints Anish Gouraha as Regional Head for J&K and Ladakh Hydropower Operation

Veteran Power Sector Expert to Oversee Key Hydro Projects, Strengthen Clean Energy Development in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh

Jammu: NHPC Limited has appointed Executive Director Anish Gouraha as the Regional Head for its operations in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, effective May 1, 2026.

In his new role, Gouraha will oversee key hydropower stations and ongoing as well as upcoming projects across the two Union Territories, which are considered among India’s most important renewable energy hubs.

Nearly Three Decades of Hydropower Experience

Anish Gouraha brings nearly 29 years of experience in the hydropower sector. He has worked across multiple critical assignments within NHPC, contributing significantly to operations, maintenance, and project development.

Before this appointment, he held important roles linked to major projects, including responsibilities at the Salal Power Station.

Educational Background and Career Journey

Gouraha holds an Electrical Engineering degree from GEC Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, and an MBA in Human Resources. He joined NHPC in 1997 at the Salal Power Station and has since served in various technical and managerial roles.

His career also includes work at the Tattapani geothermal project and the Design (E&M) division at NHPC’s corporate office, showcasing a strong blend of field and administrative expertise.

Strategic Role in J&K and Ladakh

The Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh region is a key hydropower corridor in India due to its river systems and renewable energy potential. NHPC has been actively developing infrastructure in the region to strengthen clean energy generation.

As Regional Head, Gouraha will focus on:

  • Efficient operation and maintenance of power stations
  • Timely execution of ongoing and upcoming hydropower projects
  • Coordination with local authorities and stakeholders
  • Promoting sustainable and clean energy development

Meeting with Lieutenant Governor

Ahead of taking charge, Gouraha met Manoj Sinha on April 30, 2026 in Jammu. During the meeting, he briefed the Lieutenant Governor on NHPC’s ongoing initiatives and future plans for hydropower development in the region.
