NIELIT Digital University Integrates Saylor University Resources to Expand Global Digital Learning

The collaboration will provide NDU learners with access to free, self-paced courses in AI, programming, data science, cybersecurity and business management.

New Delhi: The National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), has launched a collaboration with Saylor University, USA, to integrate Saylor’s digital learning resources into the NIELIT Digital University (NDU) platform.

S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, attended the event as Chief Guest and formally inaugurated the collaboration at MeitY, New Delhi. The initiative is aimed at expanding access to quality, flexible and globally relevant digital learning opportunities for students, working professionals and other learners.

NDU Platform to Offer Global Digital Learning Resources

Through the integration, learners registered on the NDU platform will gain access to a wider range of quality and self-paced online courses and learning resources offered by Saylor University.

The collaboration is expected to:

  • Expand access to globally relevant digital learning resources.
  • Provide learners with greater flexibility and choice.
  • Support lifelong learning, digital upskilling and reskilling.
  • Create a common ecosystem for national and international learning opportunities.
  • Help learners acquire contemporary skills relevant to the evolving technology and employment landscape.

The partnership marks an important step towards strengthening India’s digital learning ecosystem through international academic collaboration and technology-enabled education.

MeitY Secretary Highlights Importance of Global Collaboration

S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, congratulated NIELIT and Saylor University on the launch of the collaboration. He described the initiative as an important step towards expanding access to quality digital learning and strengthening opportunities for skilling, upskilling and lifelong learning.

He also highlighted the importance of global partnerships in strengthening India’s digital education ecosystem and preparing learners with relevant skills for a technology-driven economy.

Krishnan emphasised that skilling and talent development need to remain aligned with the changing requirements of industry and the global digital economy. He stressed the importance of continuous learning, upskilling and reskilling to ensure that India’s talent pool remains relevant and competitive.

NIELIT Emphasises Industry-Relevant Digital Skills

Dr. M. M. Tripathi, Director General, NIELIT, welcomed the guests and partner organisations and highlighted the role of partnerships in strengthening digital education, skilling and emerging technology capabilities.

He said the collaboration would further enrich the digital learning ecosystem by facilitating continuous upskilling and reskilling opportunities.

The initiative is also expected to help learners acquire skills aligned with the changing requirements of the digital economy and contribute to the development of a future-ready and globally competitive workforce.

Saylor University to Provide Courses in Emerging Technologies

Dr. David Shulman, Provost and Senior Vice President, Saylor University, USA, welcomed the partnership and highlighted its potential to expand access to flexible and industry-relevant digital education.

Saylor University’s online learning resources include free, self-paced courses covering areas such as:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Programming
  • Data Science
  • Cybersecurity
  • Business Management

Shulman highlighted the potential of combining NIELIT’s nationwide digital reach with Saylor University’s open-learning resources through the NDU platform.

The collaboration is expected to expand learning opportunities for students, working professionals and learners seeking to upskill or reskill, including those in Tier-2, Tier-3 and underserved regions.

Focus on AI, Data Science and Cybersecurity Skills

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Sheila Jagannathan, Vice President, Saylor University, USA, highlighted the growing importance of continuous learning amid rapid advancements in Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies.

She noted that Saylor University offers more than 160 free online courses in areas including AI, data science, programming and cybersecurity.

According to Jagannathan, the partnership combines NIELIT’s nationwide reach with Saylor University’s open-learning resources to broaden access to education, enhance employability and support the development of a future-ready workforce.

NIELIT Exchanges MoUs With Eight Organisations

As part of the event, NIELIT also exchanged Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with eight organisations from the association, industry and academic sectors.

The partnerships are aimed at expanding industry-aligned skilling, certification, faculty development, internships and digital learning opportunities, largely leveraging the NDU platform.

  • National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM)
  • Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI)
  • Pearson India Education Services Pvt. Ltd.
  • STEM Learning and Outreach for Research and Education (STEMLORE)
  • Dassault Systèmes
  • ABES Engineering College
  • Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University (KBCNMU), Jalgaon

NIELIT to Strengthen Future-Ready Digital Workforce

Dr. Alok Tripathi, Director (Scheme/Skilling) & Chief Controller of Examinations, NIELIT, said the partnerships would further strengthen the institute’s efforts in digital skilling, emerging technologies and industry-oriented learning.

He highlighted the wider opportunities that the collaborations can create for learners across the country and called for sustained cooperation among stakeholders to build a future-ready and globally competitive digital workforce.

NIELIT Digital University Reaches Learners Across India

The NIELIT Digital University (NDU) Platform was launched on October 2, 2025, as a next-generation digital learning ecosystem focused on accessible, affordable and industry-aligned education in emerging technologies.

Key features of the NDU platform include:

  • More than 2.80 lakh registered learners
  • Over 120 courses across emerging technology domains
  • Presence across all 36 States and Union Territories
  • Reach across 761 districts
  • Online and blended learning options
  • AI-enabled learning tools
  • Virtual Labs
  • Advanced Learning Management System
  • NSQF-aligned and NCVET-approved programmes
  • ABC-enabled credit transfer
  • Personalised learning pathways

The platform currently offers learning opportunities in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Cloud Computing, Semiconductor Design, VLSI and other frontier technologies.

The National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) is an autonomous scientific society under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. It has been working in the areas of skill development and digital empowerment.

NIELIT has an extensive network comprising 56 NIELIT centres, more than 700 accredited institutes and over 8,000 facilitation centres, through which it has skilled and certified millions of students in emerging technologies in the E&ICT domain.
