New Delhi: Krishna Kumar Thakur has taken charge as Director (Personnel) at NMDC Limited, marking a significant leadership addition to India’s largest iron ore producing company.
A 1998-batch officer of the Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS), Thakur brings over 25 years of extensive experience in human resource management and administration across Indian Railways and Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs).
Extensive Experience in HR and Administration
Throughout his career, Thakur has managed key HR functions across major railway divisions including Solapur, Bhopal, and Mumbai. He played a crucial role in large-scale recruitment as Chairman of the Railway Recruitment Cell, Western Railway, where he oversaw the induction of nearly 12,000 employees.
His expertise includes handling complex industrial relations, implementing progressive HR policies, and driving initiatives to enhance employee productivity and welfare.

Key Leadership Roles Across CPSEs
Before joining NMDC, Thakur served as Director (HR) at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, where he led major reforms in HR, legal, and health, safety, and environment (HSE) domains. His tenure saw:
- Organisational restructuring
- Policy reforms
- Introduction of a uniform incentive scheme
- Multi-skilling initiatives to boost workforce capability and retention
He also introduced standardised guidelines for labour infrastructure to improve workforce mobilization and retention.
International and Strategic Contributions
During his stint with RITES Limited, Thakur contributed to an international train operations project in Saudi Arabia, showcasing his global exposure.
He also headed the HR function at Konkan Railway Corporation Limited, where he played a key role in streamlining HR policies and procedures.
Strong Academic Background
An alumnus of Tilka Manjhi University, Thakur holds a postgraduate degree in Literature. He also earned a PGDM in Human Resources from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, one of India’s premier institutions for social sciences and HR education.
