NMDC Organises Two-Day Vigilance Programme on Public Procurement, GeM and Cyber Security

Expert Sessions Focus on Ethical Procurement, Contract Design and Cyber Hygiene to Strengthen Transparency, Accountability and Good Governance

New Delhi: NMDC Limited organised a two-day vigilance capacity-building programme on October 7 and 8, 2026, focusing on key areas identified by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), including public procurement, Government e-Marketplace (GeM), contract management and cyber security. The initiative aimed to promote ethical practices, improve procurement efficiency, strengthen institutional systems and enhance transparency and accountability.

Organised by NMDC’s Vigilance Department, the programme featured expert-led sessions on procurement ethics, digital purchasing platforms, effective contract design and cyber hygiene. Executives nominated from NMDC’s Head Office and various projects participated in the sessions, which combined professional expertise with practical insights and interactive discussions.

The initiative reaffirmed NMDC’s commitment to preventive vigilance, professional development and good governance, in line with the broader objectives of Vigilance Awareness Week 2026 and the principle of “Probity with Prosperity.”

NMDC Organises Sessions on Public Procurement and GeM

The first day of the programme, held on October 7, focused on the CVC’s key areas of public procurement and GeM’s new features and functionalities. The sessions aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of ethical procurement practices, procedural compliance and the effective use of digital procurement platforms.

Krishna Kumar Thakur, Director (Personnel), NMDC, and C. Neelakanta Reddy, Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO), NMDC, attended the inaugural session.

The programme featured the following expert-led sessions:

  • Ethos in Public Procurement: Sanjay Aggarwal, IRSS, PCMM, RCF–Kapurthala, shared insights into ethical values in public procurement. His session emphasised integrity, fairness, ethical decision-making and compliance with established procurement principles.
  • GeM – New Features and Functionalities: Anuj Kumar, Director (GeM), discussed the latest developments and features of the Government e-Marketplace, highlighting digital procurement mechanisms and best practices for its effective utilisation.

The sessions underlined the importance of maintaining transparency, fairness and accountability in public procurement while making effective use of digital platforms to improve efficiency.

Contract Design and Cyber Security Take Centre Stage on Day Two

The second day focused on effective procurement contract design, cyber security and cyber hygiene. The sessions addressed the importance of strong contractual frameworks and responsible digital practices in reducing institutional risks and improving operational efficiency.

Ankur Srivastava, Controller, National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), delivered a session on “Contract Design for Effective Procurement.” He shared practical insights and relevant case studies on developing effective procurement contracts, highlighting the importance of well-designed contracts in supporting efficient procurement processes.

K. Indraveni, Scientist-F and Associate Director, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), conducted a session on “Cyber Security & Cyber Hygiene.” Her presentation covered cyber threats, responsible digital practices and the importance of maintaining security-conscious behaviour in the workplace.

Vivek Nishant Nath, Director (Commercial), NMDC, and C. Neelakanta Reddy, CVO, NMDC, were present during the concluding session of the programme.

The key areas covered on the second day included:

  • Effective contract design and procurement management.
  • Practical approaches to minimising contractual risks.
  • Identification of cyber threats and adoption of secure digital practices.
  • Importance of cyber hygiene and responsible workplace behaviour.

Interactive Discussions Highlight Preventive Vigilance

The capacity-building programme combined expert perspectives, practical examples and interactive discussions to strengthen participants’ understanding of procurement procedures, contract management and cyber security.

The discussions facilitated the exchange of professional experiences and highlighted the role of robust institutional systems, informed decision-making and procedural compliance in minimising vulnerabilities and preventing irregularities.

The programme emphasised several important aspects of preventive vigilance:

  • Maintaining integrity and fairness in public procurement.
  • Ensuring compliance with established rules and procedures.
  • Improving contract management and procurement efficiency.
  • Promoting the secure use of digital platforms.
  • Strengthening accountability and transparency in institutional processes.
  • Encouraging ethical decision-making and responsible professional conduct.

Participation from NMDC’s Head Office and various projects also provided an opportunity for knowledge sharing and professional development across the organisation.

NMDC Reaffirms Commitment to Transparency and Good Governance

Through this initiative, NMDC’s Vigilance Department reiterated the importance of capacity building and preventive vigilance in strengthening institutional capabilities. The programme sought to equip executives with practical knowledge and professional insights to support ethical practices, improve operational systems and minimise the scope for irregularities.

The initiative also aligned with the broader objectives of Vigilance Awareness Week 2026, reinforcing the importance of probity, transparency, accountability and excellence in organisational functioning.

By focusing on public procurement, GeM, contract design and cyber security, NMDC reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a culture of good governance and strengthening institutional systems in the spirit of “Probity with Prosperity.”
