NTPC Bongaigaon Thermal Power Plant Marks 21 Years with Record Ash Utilisation and Top Safety Ranking

New Delhi: The NTPC Bongaigaon thermal power station in Assam has marked its 21st Raising Day, celebrating more than two decades of uninterrupted operations and a strong commitment to safety and sustainable practices. The milestone was commemorated with a flag-hoisting ceremony at the plant, highlighting its contributions to regional development and national energy security.

Significant Operational Achievements

Since commencing operations on 16 January 2006, NTPC Bongaigaon has supplied 3,527 million units of electricity to the national grid. The plant currently operates at 96.93% of its declared capacity, reflecting a high level of operational efficiency and performance.

The station has also recorded its highest-ever ash utilisation rate, reinforcing NTPC’s efforts to promote a circular economy and reduce environmental impact. Officials noted that the plant now ranks fourth in safety performance across all NTPC facilities in India, demonstrating a strong focus on employee welfare and workplace safety standards.

Flag-Hoisting Ceremony and Leadership Remarks

The ceremonial flag was hoisted by Mr. Arnab Maitra, Head of the Project, who emphasized the power station’s pivotal role in supporting regional development, creating employment opportunities, and contributing to India’s energy security. The leadership underlined NTPC Bongaigaon’s commitment to sustainable and safe operations while meeting the growing electricity demands of the north-eastern region.

Contribution to National Energy and Sustainability Goals

NTPC Bongaigaon is part of NTPC Limited, India’s largest power generation company, which continues to balance thermal power generation with the expansion of its renewable energy portfolio. The plant’s performance exemplifies NTPC’s focus on efficient energy production, environmental responsibility, and technological innovation, aligning with national priorities for sustainable power generation.
