BESS Project to Support Renewable Energy Integration

The project is significant for West Bengal as the state looks to expand battery storage infrastructure to manage peak electricity demand and support the integration of renewable energy.

Battery Energy Storage Systems can store electricity when demand is relatively low and release it during periods of higher demand, helping improve grid flexibility and reliability.

For NGEL, the project further expands its presence in the energy storage segment alongside its growing portfolio of solar and hybrid renewable energy projects.

NTPC Green Energy Expands Storage Portfolio

The latest BESS win adds another major project to NTPC Green Energy’s expanding clean energy portfolio.

The company has increasingly focused on battery storage and hybrid renewable energy projects, indicating that energy storage is becoming an important growth area alongside its traditional focus on renewable power generation.

The West Bengal project also highlights NGEL’s approach of securing sizeable storage capacity at a commercially viable tariff rather than simply competing for the lowest possible bid.

NGEL Reports 38.3% Rise in June Quarter Net Profit

NTPC Green Energy also reported strong financial performance for the quarter ended June 2026.

The company’s net profit increased 38.3% year-on-year, supported by strong growth in revenue.

Q1 Financial Highlights

  • Revenue from operations: ₹1,106.9 crore
  • Year-ago revenue: ₹680.2 crore
  • Year-on-year revenue growth: 62.7%
  • Net profit growth: 38.3% year-on-year

The strong revenue growth reflects the company’s expanding renewable energy operations and growing project portfolio.

NTPC Green Energy to Increase Stake in AP NGEL Harit Amrit

The company’s Board has also given in-principle approval for an investment of up to ₹28.78 lakh in AP NGEL Harit Amrit Ltd, a 50:50 joint venture between NTPC Green Energy and the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd.

Following the proposed investment, NTPC Green Energy’s holding in the joint venture will increase to 51%.

As a result, AP NGEL Harit Amrit will become a subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy, subject to the necessary statutory and regulatory approvals.

The subsidiary structure is also expected to facilitate subsequent stake dilution for captive or group captive arrangements serving commercial and industrial customers, subject to applicable approvals.

NTPC Green Energy Share Price

Shares of NTPC Green Energy Ltd closed at ₹91.50 on the BSE on August 7, 2026.

The stock gained ₹0.19, or 0.21%, during the trading session.
