New Delhi: NTPC Ltd. has successfully commissioned an additional 167 MW capacity at its Nokh Solar PV Project located in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, marking a significant milestone in the company’s renewable energy expansion. The commercial operation of this capacity commenced at midnight on September 26, 2025.

Total Capacity Expansion

With this recent commissioning, NTPC’s Nokh Solar Project’s Plot-1 now has a total capacity of 245 MW, which is part of a larger 3×245 MW solar initiative. Previously, Plot-3 of the same project achieved full commercial operations with 193 MW and 52 MW commissioned in June 2025. This brings the total installed and commercial capacity of NTPC to 60,705 MW on a standalone basis and 83,863 MW on a consolidated group basis.

Strategic Significance

The Nokh Solar PV Project is a key component of NTPC’s strategy to boost renewable energy generation and support India’s clean energy goals. Situated in Rajasthan, a region with abundant solar resources, this project aligns with the government’s vision to expand solar power capacity and reduce carbon emissions.

Market Reaction

Following the announcement, NTPC’s shares experienced a marginal decline of 2.13% during trading sessions, despite the positive development. Market analysts suggest this dip could be a short-term reaction to profit booking after recent gains in NTPC’s stock.

Supporting India’s Energy Transition

NTPC’s ongoing investments in large-scale solar projects like Nokh underscore the company’s commitment to a sustainable energy future. The expansion of solar capacity helps diversify NTPC’s energy mix, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and contributing to India’s targets for renewable energy adoption.
