NTPC WR-I Holds Productivity Council Meet in Mahabaleshwar, Discusses AI, Safety and Power Sector Efficiency 

Management, unions and associations discuss thermal flexibility, zero demurrage, AI-led efficiency and sustainable energy solutions at RJPC Meeting 2026.

Mumbai: NTPC Western Region-I Headquarters, Mumbai, organised the Regional Joint Productivity Council (RJPC) Meeting 2026 at Mahabaleshwar on August 25, bringing together management representatives, unions and associations from across the Western Region-I.

The meeting focused on strengthening employee participation, productivity, operational excellence, safety and sustainability as the power sector undergoes rapid technological and operational changes.

NTPC WR-I Management and Employee Representatives Participate

The meeting was attended by E. Satya Phani Kumar, Regional Executive Director (West-I), along with Business Unit Heads of NTPC WR-I projects and stations at Mouda, Solapur, Anta, Jhanor-Gandhar and Kawas.

Ms. Vandana Chaturvedi, Regional Head of HR (West-I), also participated along with Heads of HR from WR-I projects and stations, including Mouda, Solapur, Anta, Jhanor-Gandhar, Kawas and RGPPL.

Representatives of various unions and associations from NTPC WR-I projects and stations also took part in the meeting. The Executive Director (DRC) and members of the Departmental Review Committee (DRC) were present as well.

Key Power Sector Issues Discussed

A major highlight of the RJPC meeting was a series of presentations by representatives of unions and associations on contemporary issues relevant to the power sector.

The discussions covered:

  • Flexibilization in Thermal Projects: Quick response to changing grid demand
  • Safety Culture: Strengthening workplace safety through behavioural interventions
  • Artificial Intelligence: Using AI to enhance power plant efficiency
  • Coal-Based Plants: Achieving zero demurrage
  • Gas-Based Plants: Future sustainability and operational requirements

The deliberations provided a platform for management and employee representatives to exchange ideas and discuss ways to improve productivity and organisational performance.

Focus on Productivity, Safety and Innovation

Addressing the gathering, E. Satya Phani Kumar highlighted the importance of the RJPC as a platform for strengthening mutual trust and partnership between management and employees.

He said that ideas and suggestions emerging from such forums can contribute to productivity, innovation and organisational excellence. He also emphasised the importance of collective efforts as the power sector responds to emerging challenges and moves towards a more sustainable and efficient energy future.

Ms. Vandana Chaturvedi said the active participation of unions and associations reflected NTPC’s culture of constructive engagement. She highlighted the role of employee participation, safety, innovation and technology in addressing issues affecting both employees and business operations.

Special Nuclear Power Awareness Session Organised

On August 26, 2026, a special awareness session on nuclear power was also organised for the participants.

The session was conducted by Nirbhay Gupta, Executive Director (Nuclear), and A. P. Samal, Executive Director (Nuclear).

The session covered:

  • Prospects of nuclear power in India
  • Awareness about nuclear power plants
  • Role of nuclear energy in India’s future energy mix
  • Importance and potential of nuclear power in the evolving energy landscape

The session provided participants with insights into the growing relevance of nuclear energy as India works towards developing a diversified and sustainable energy mix.

Meeting Reinforces Employee Participation at NTPC

The RJPC meeting concluded with a shared commitment to further strengthen constructive industrial relations and employee participation.

The discussions and awareness session also reinforced the importance of collaboration, innovation, safety and operational efficiency in supporting NTPC’s continued growth and leadership in India’s evolving power sector.
