New Delhi: The India-Kuwait Joint Defence Committee Meeting marked a major step in strengthening defence ties between the two countries. Held in New Delhi on August 28, 2026, the inaugural meeting focused on expanding cooperation in military training, exercises, defence industry, military medicine, staff talks, and research and development (R&D). 

The meeting was organized under the framework of the India-Kuwait Defence Cooperation MoU signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kuwait in December 2024.

The first-ever India-Kuwait Joint Defence Committee (JDC) meeting was co-chaired by Joint Secretary Amitabh Prasad from India and Brigadier General Raed Alsakran from Kuwait.

The committee aims to create a structured platform for regular defence dialogue and cooperation between the two nations. The initiative converts the objectives of the 2024 Defence Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding into practical action.

What Was Discussed During The India-Kuwait Joint Defence Committee Meeting

Both countries agreed to strengthen defence cooperation across several important sectors. These include military training programs, joint exercises, military medicine, staff-level interactions, defence industry collaboration, and research and development activities. 

The discussions reflected a shared commitment to enhancing defence preparedness and long-term strategic engagement.

India and Kuwait explored opportunities to increase military exchanges and training cooperation. Regular exercises and professional interactions can help both armed forces improve operational coordination and share best practices.

Importance Of The 2024 Defence Cooperation MoU

The Joint Defence Committee is a direct outcome of the Defence Cooperation MoU signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kuwait in December 2024. The agreement laid the foundation for stronger military relations and created a roadmap for future defence collaboration between the two countries.

India-Kuwait Joint Defence Committee Meeting: High-Level Participation From Both Sides

The Indian delegation included representatives from the three armed services, the Department of Defence Production, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Armed Forces Medical Services, and the Ministry of External Affairs. The Kuwaiti delegation was led by Brigadier General Raed Alsakran and included senior defence officials.

Kuwait Delegation’s Visit To India

Before the official meeting, Brigadier General Raed Alsakran paid tribute to India’s fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial in New Delhi. The Kuwaiti delegation also visited Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and interacted with representatives of India’s defence industry to explore future cooperation opportunities.

India-Kuwait Strategic Partnership Continues To Grow

India and Kuwait share longstanding diplomatic relations that date back to 1962. Their relationship was elevated to a Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kuwait in December 2024. Historical ties, geographical proximity, cultural connections, and the large Indian community in Kuwait continue to strengthen bilateral relations.
