New Delhi: REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, celebrated National Sports Day 2026 with a series of intra-organisation tournaments in Chess, Table Tennis and Cricket.
The initiative was organised to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand and promote wellness, fitness and team spirit among REC employees.
Chess and Table Tennis Competitions Begin Celebrations
The celebrations commenced on August 27, 2026, with indoor sporting competitions that saw enthusiastic participation from employees.
The events included:
- Chess: 16 participants competed in tactical and closely contested matches.
- Table Tennis: 12 participants showcased agility, precision and technique.
The competitions combined healthy rivalry with an emphasis on participation and employee camaraderie.

Team Shakti Clinches Cricket Victory
The celebrations concluded on August 29, 2026, with an action-packed cricket match between Team Urja (Men in Blue) and Team Shakti (Men in Red).
A total of 28 players participated in the match. Team Shakti emerged victorious after delivering a strong all-round performance and demonstrating exceptional teamwork.
REC CMD Jitendra Srivastava Participates in Sports Events
Jitendra Srivastava, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), REC Limited, actively participated in both the Table Tennis tournament and the Cricket match as a key member of Team Shakti.
He also hit the final shot of the cricket match, leading the team from the front.
Speaking on the occasion, Jitendra Srivastava said that sports promote qualities such as:

- Resilience
- Teamwork
- Collective effort
He also highlighted the legacy of Major Dhyan Chand and appreciated REC employees for coming together with enthusiasm and team spirit.
REC Leadership Felicitates Winners
The event was also attended by TSC Bosh, Director (Projects), and Rajesh Kumar, Director (Finance).
They encouraged the participants, cheered for the teams and felicitated the winners for their performances.
The celebrations concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, recognising the talent, enthusiasm and sporting spirit displayed by employees throughout the events.
National Sports Day Promotes Fitness and Team Spirit
The multi-sport initiative provided REC employees with an opportunity to participate in sporting activities while reinforcing the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle.
Through Chess, Table Tennis and Cricket, the celebrations promoted fitness, discipline, strategic thinking, teamwork and camaraderie across the organisation.
