Boudh: In a strong and symbolic move to address the growing sanitation issues in public spaces, Boudh District Collector Bibhuti Bhushan Nayak, an IAS officer of 2020 batch, personally led a surprise cleanliness drive at Charichhak market under the Boudh Sadar subdivision on Thursday morning. The Collector’s hands-on involvement sent a clear message about the administration’s seriousness regarding hygiene and civic responsibility.
From Inspection to Action
The day began with the Collector visiting the Harabhanga Block Office, where he chaired a joint meeting with officials from the block administration, tehsil, local police station, and grassroots workers including Sarpanchs, ASHA, and Anganwadi workers. The meeting focused on strategies for improving sanitation, civic amenities, and coordination among departments.
Following the meeting, the Collector went directly to the Charichhak market, which has been struggling with waste accumulation, poor drainage, and a lack of sanitation facilities. What followed was unexpected — instead of simply inspecting the area, Nayak began cleaning the market himself, collecting litter and waste from the market lanes.
Strict Warning to Shopkeepers
The Collector personally interacted with shopkeepers, many of whom were taken by surprise. He issued a strict warning against the careless dumping of waste, urging vendors to maintain cleanliness around their establishments. He also emphasized that penalties would be imposed for future violations.
“If this continues, the administration will not hesitate to take punitive action. Cleanliness is a shared responsibility,” Nayak reportedly told shopkeepers.
The Block Development Officer (BDO), who accompanied the Collector, echoed this sentiment and added that regular monitoring would now be enforced in the area.
Review of Public Facilities and Infrastructure
During the visit, the Collector also inspected the public toilet in the market, which is in a dilapidated condition. Locals and members of the market committee requested urgent repairs. Nayak assured that the matter would be taken up with priority.
In addition, he visited the Charichhak Sevashram, where he reviewed the status of an abandoned drinking water project. He directed officials to revive the project at the earliest, noting the importance of clean drinking water for the local community.
