Bhubaneswar: In a significant development for the Odisha Police, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved the promotion of two senior IPS officers, Sanjeeb Panda (IPS:1994) and Yeshwant Kumar Jethwa (IPS:1994), to the grade of Director General of Police (DGP).
Both officers belong to the 1994 batch of the Odisha cadre and have held several important assignments during their careers. Their elevation to the DGP grade marks an important strengthening of the senior leadership structure of the state police.
Sanjeeb Panda, Yeshwant Jethwa Elevated to DGP Grade
The promotion proposal for the two officers was formally approved by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, paving the way for their elevation to the apex level of the state police hierarchy.

He has handled responsibilities related to anti-Naxal operations, intelligence, crime investigation, police training and urban policing. His assignments have included senior positions in the Odisha Police’s intelligence and operational wings.
Panda has also served as ADGP, Anti-Naxal Operations, and has held additional responsibility for the Special Intelligence Wing (SIW).
His experience in tackling Left-Wing Extremism is particularly significant, given Odisha’s continued focus on strengthening security operations in areas affected by Naxal activities.
Panda has also served as Commissioner of Police of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate, apart from holding senior positions in the Crime Branch and police training establishment.
Yeshwant Kumar Jethwa’s Policing Experience
Yeshwant Kumar Jethwa, also a 1994-batch Odisha-cadre IPS officer, has held several important assignments in the state police.
He has served in senior operational and administrative roles and is currently associated with the state’s vigilance establishment.
His elevation to the DGP grade places him among the senior-most officers available for important leadership responsibilities within Odisha Police.

The promotion of the two officers is expected to strengthen the senior leadership structure of the Odisha Police.
