BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government has refused to accept the resignation of IPS officer Jagmohan Meena (IPS:2013:OD), who is currently serving as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Bhubaneswar.

Meena had submitted his resignation in July 2026, citing personal reasons. He subsequently clarified that the decision was taken after discussions with his family and friends and had no connection with any external pressure or political interference.

With the government declining to accept his resignation, Meena continues to serve as Bhubaneswar DCP.

Meena Had Cited Personal Reasons for Resignation

The 2013-batch IPS officer had made it clear that his decision to leave the police service was personal.

After reports surrounding his resignation emerged, Meena clarified that he had taken the decision after discussing it with his family and friends. He also categorically stated that there was no external pressure or political interferencebehind his decision.

He had urged the government to respect his decision.

However, the state government’s latest decision means that his resignation has not taken effect and he remains in service.

Who Is IPS Jagmohan Meena?

Jagmohan Meena is a 2013-batch IPS officer of the Odisha cadre, originally from Sikar, Rajasthan.

An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, Meena cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination and entered the Indian Police Service in 2013.

He formally joined the IPS on December 23, 2013, and has since served in several important policing assignments across Odisha.

His career has included field postings in both Maoist-affected districts and major urban centres, giving him experience in counter-insurgency operations, district policing, law and order and community-oriented policing.

Served as SP in Three Districts

During his career in Odisha, Meena served as Superintendent of Police (SP) in several districts, including Angul, Ganjam and Malkangiri.

His tenure in these assignments exposed him to a wide range of policing challenges, from conventional law-and-order issues to security operations in areas affected by Left-Wing Extremism.

He later served as DCP, Cuttack, before moving to the state capital.

Took Charge as Bhubaneswar DCP in 2025

Meena assumed charge as DCP, Bhubaneswar, on February 28, 2025.

The posting placed him at the helm of policing in Odisha’s capital, overseeing law and order, crime control, traffic coordination and other urban policing responsibilities.

His experience in both district and urban policing has marked a significant part of his career.

Recipient of Gallantry Awards

Meena has also been recognised for his service, receiving gallantry awards in 2019.

His professional record includes assignments involving challenging security and law-and-order situations, particularly during his postings in districts affected by Maoist activities.

Possible Plans After Resignation

Media reports had suggested that Meena could potentially join a family business in Rajasthan after leaving the police service.

However, the officer has maintained that his plans are entirely personal and had not attributed his decision to any political or administrative pressure.

With the Odisha government now refusing to accept his resignation, any such plans would remain subject to his future decision and the government’s subsequent action.

Continues as Bhubaneswar DCP

For now, the immediate outcome is clear: Jagmohan Meena remains an IPS officer of the Odisha cadre and continues as Bhubaneswar DCP.

His resignation, submitted on personal grounds, has not been accepted by the state government.

Meena’s case comes against the backdrop of his more than 13 years of service in the IPS, during which he has handled assignments ranging from anti-Maoist operations and district policing to senior urban policing responsibilities in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
