Patna: The Bihar Sugarcane Industries Department has extended the application deadline for the Seed Development Scheme 2026-27 under the Chief Minister’s Sugarcane Development Programme. Farmers can now apply online until September 15 to avail the scheme’s benefits.

Subsidised Seeds for Sugarcane Farmers

The state government launched the scheme to encourage farmers to use verified and certified sugarcane planting material. Under the programme, eligible farmers will receive certified and verified sugarcane seeds at subsidised rates.

The initiative aims to reduce cultivation costs while improving farmers’ access to quality planting material.

Single-Bud Plantlets to Reduce Seed Cost

According to the department, around 20 per cent of the total cost of sugarcane cultivation goes towards seeds. Providing seeds at subsidised rates can therefore help reduce the financial burden on farmers.

The scheme will also provide single-bud plantlets at subsidised rates. The initiative aims to help farmers cover a larger area using less planting material.

Applications Open Until September 15

The Sugarcane Industries Department has extended the application window to give more farmers an opportunity to participate in the scheme.

Farmers interested in availing the benefits can submit their applications online through the Cane Care Portal.

The extended deadline is September 15, 2026.

Focus on Lower Cultivation Costs

By supporting access to certified seeds and single-bud plantlets, the Bihar government aims to encourage better planting practices among sugarcane farmers. The subsidy can help reduce initial cultivation expenses and support wider adoption of quality planting material.

The extended application deadline provides farmers additional time to complete the online process and access the benefits available under the 2026-27 scheme.
