Patna: The Bihar Police has launched special patrolling by 1,408 ‘Police Didi’ teams across all districts on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, with a focus on the safety of women and girls.
The teams have started patrolling and conducting area visits within their respective police station jurisdictions. They are covering locations including schools, colleges, hostels, coaching institutes, malls, parks, cinema halls, fairs, markets and other sensitive or crowded areas.
1,408 Teams Begin Special Patrolling
The Police Didi teams will regularly visit designated locations and maintain surveillance in areas where women and girls are present.

The initiative includes:
- Patrolling and area visits across all districts.
- Monitoring schools, colleges, hostels and coaching institutes.
- Visits to malls, parks, cinema halls, fairs, markets and other crowded locations.
- Providing immediate police assistance and counselling when required.
- Coordinating with relevant institutions on women’s safety.
Teams Linked to ERSS Dial-112
For emergencies, the Police Didi teams have been linked with the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) Dial-112.
This arrangement will enable the teams to seek immediate assistance from the nearest ERSS vehicle and other police teams when required.
Each Team Has Two Women Police Personnel
Under the current structure, each Police Didi team consists of:
- One woman police officer serving as the team in-charge.
- One woman police personnel serving as a team member.
The teams have been formed in place of the earlier Abhaya Brigade, with their composition based on current requirements.
Police Didi Teams to Connect With Educational Institutions
The teams will visit schools, colleges, hostels and coaching institutes to interact with women and girls and understand safety-related concerns and requirements.
They will also coordinate with institutional administrations, teachers, wardens and operators on matters related to women’s safety.
The teams will educate women and girls about their rights, safety measures, available police assistance and emergency services.
Action Against Harassment and Other Offences
The Police Didi teams will respond to information concerning incidents such as harassment, stalking, molestation and other criminal activities.
The police said necessary action in accordance with law will be taken whenever such incidents are reported.
Bihar Police Targets 2,500 Teams
Bihar Police has set a target of forming 2,500 Police Didi teams in two phases.
The first phase targets 1,500 teams, while the second phase envisages another 1,000 teams. At present, 1,408 teams are conducting special patrolling across the state’s districts.
