Bihar Police Force Set for Major Expansion as 19,596 Constables Undergo Training

Bihar Police is training 19,596 newly recruited constables at 46 centres, with another recruitment drive for around 20,000 constables underway.

Patna: The Bihar Police is preparing for a substantial increase in its personnel strength, with 19,596 newly recruited constables currently undergoing basic training at 46 training centres across the state.

The recruits are undergoing a nine-month training programme and will subsequently be deployed in district police forces and other units according to requirements. Bihar Police currently has a strength of around 1.21 lakh personnel.

Once the 19,596 trainees complete their training and join the force, its strength is expected to exceed 1.41 lakh. Recruitment of another approximately 20,000 constables is also underway.

19,596 Constables Undergoing Training

According to Bihar Police Headquarters, the current batch comprises:

  • 16,656 constables being trained for the district police force
  • 2,940 constables being trained for the Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP)
  • Training is being conducted across 46 centres
  • The basic training programme runs for nine months

Training Spread Across Multiple Centres

The 19,596 recruits are being trained at police, BSAP, CRPF and SSB training facilities.

The centre-wise distribution includes:

  • 8,413 trainees at 30 district-level police training centres
  • 5,715 trainees at nine BSAP training centres
  • 1,088 trainees at BSAP-2 in Dehri, Rohtas
  • 1,025 trainees at BSAP-12 in Supaul
  • 827 trainees at the Military Police Training Centre (MPTC) in Dumraon, Buxar

Training is also being conducted at CRPF centres in Chandauli, Mokamaghat and Siliguri, as well as SSB centres in Bagaha, Birpur, Bathnaha and Supaul.

Separate arrangements have been made for male and female trainees at the training institutions.

Constables Receive Training in Law, Weapons and Technology

The nine-month programme covers physical and professional training designed to prepare recruits for policing duties.

The curriculum includes:

  • Physical training and yoga
  • Unarmed combat and drills
  • Armed drill and weapons handling
  • Firing practice
  • Riot-control training
  • First aid and explosives-related training
  • Map reading
  • Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and other laws
  • Bihar Police Manual
  • Police organisation and the role of police in modern India
  • Police communications
  • Traffic management
  • Information technology and modern equipment

The training programme also includes instruction on handling different types of weapons and responding to various operational situations.

Additional Recruitment Underway

The Bihar Police is also conducting recruitment for around 20,000 additional constables.

With the ongoing batch of 19,596 recruits and the subsequent recruitment process, the police force is projected to cross 1.60 lakh personnel by the end of next year, according to police officials.

DGP Highlights Strengthening of Police Force

Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar, a 1991-batch IPS officer of the Bihar cadre, said efforts were underway to strengthen the police force through recruitment and training.

“Comprehensive arrangements have been made for the recruitment of new constables and providing them with training of the highest standard,” he said.

The DGP said strengthening the force would improve the police-public ratio and support policing and crime-control efforts across the state.
