Mr. V. A. S. Kannen has taken charge as Director (Personnel) at ECIL, bringing extensive experience in Human Resources (HR), Industrial Relations (IR) and employee management across public and private sector organisations.
His professional experience includes stints with Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC of India), private sector organisations, Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Limited (NLCIL) and Engineers India Limited (EIL).
His appointment comes at a time when ECIL continues to contribute to India’s strategic and technological priorities.

Kannen began his professional career with LIC of India before moving to NLCIL, where he spent around 13 years handling HR and Industrial Relations functions.
During his tenure at NLCIL, he worked across mines, factories and the Corporate Office and was involved in several key employee and industrial relations matters.
His responsibilities included:
- Trade Union and Association matters
- Settlement of industrial disputes
- Employee relations
- HR and Industrial Relations management
- Organisation-wide employee-related processes
He was also closely associated with the conduct of the organisation’s first-ever secret ballot election, which covered multiple Strategic Business Units (SBUs) and around 12,000 workmen.
Senior HR Roles at Engineers India Limited
Kannen subsequently joined Engineers India Limited (EIL), where he served in senior HR positions and handled a broad range of strategic and operational HR responsibilities.
His work at EIL included recruitment, manpower planning, HR policy and rules formulation, Industrial Relations and HR administration.
He also established and managed HR functions at project and construction sites and headed the HR function for the Southern Region.
During his tenure at EIL, he was associated with several HR initiatives, including the implementation of the National Pension System (NPS) for employees.
