NHPC Holds 50th AGM, Proposes ₹0.21 Final Dividend; Targets 50,000 MW Capacity by 2047

NHPC reports record 1,850 MW capacity addition and ₹4,220.46 crore consolidated net profit in FY26, while advancing hydropower and renewable energy projects.

New Delhi/Faridabad: NHPC Limited hosted its 50th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on August 28, 2026, through video conferencing from its Registered Office in Faridabad. During the AGM, shareholders considered the proposal for declaration of a final dividend of ₹0.21 per equity share for FY 2025-26, in addition to the interim dividend of ₹1.40 per equity share paid in February 2026.

Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC, addressed the shareholders during the AGM and highlighted the company’s performance, growth plans and role in India’s clean energy transition.

Members of the NHPC Board present at the AGM included:

  • Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects)
  • Suprakash Adhikari, Director (Technical)
  • Mahesh Kumar Sharma, Director (Finance)
  • Paresh R. Ranpara, Director (Personnel)
  • Diwakar Nath Misra, Government Nominee Director
  • Dr. Bernadette Lyngdoh, Independent Director

Rupa Deb, Company Secretary, was also present during the AGM.

Bhupender Gupta Highlights Growing Role of Hydropower

Speaking to shareholders, Bhupender Gupta highlighted the growing importance of hydropower in India’s clean energy transition, particularly as the country continues to expand solar and wind power capacity.

He emphasised hydropower’s role in:

  • Grid balancing
  • Peaking support
  • Energy storage

Gupta said the renewed focus on Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) and supportive policy measures present significant opportunities for the hydropower sector.

He added that NHPC is well positioned to leverage these opportunities through its strong hydropower portfolio and growing presence in solar, wind and other clean energy segments.

Reiterating NHPC’s long-term vision, Gupta said the company remains committed to achieving 50,000 MW of installed capacity by 2047 and contributing significantly to India’s energy security and clean energy transition.

NHPC Adds Record 1,850 MW Capacity in FY26

Highlighting the company’s performance during FY 2025-26, Gupta said NHPC achieved its highest-ever capacity addition of 1,850 MW in a single financial year.

The record capacity addition came through the commissioning of:

  • Subansiri Lower – 750 MW
  • Parbati-II – 800 MW
  • Karnisar Solar – 300 MW

The achievement reflects NHPC’s sustained project execution capabilities built over its five-decade journey.

The company’s consolidated installed capacity, including subsidiaries and joint ventures, crossed 9,333 MW, while 17 projects aggregating 9,204 MW were under construction.

NHPC Power Stations Generate 23,307 Million Units

On a standalone basis, NHPC’s power stations generated 23,307 Million Units (MU) during FY 2025-26.

The generation came from:

  • Installed capacity: 7,401 MW
  • Number of power stations: 25
  • Power generation: 23,307 MU

Despite variations in river flows, the performance reflected the continued focus of NHPC’s operations teams on plant availability, efficient reservoir management and preventive maintenance.

NHPC Records ₹4,220 Crore Consolidated Net Profit

NHPC also reported strong financial performance during FY 2025-26.

The company recorded:

  • Consolidated net profit: ₹4,220.46 crore
  • Standalone net profit: ₹3,617.80 crore
  • Final dividend proposed: ₹0.21 per equity share
  • Interim dividend paid: ₹1.40 per equity share

Gupta highlighted NHPC’s continued focus on prudent financial management while scaling up investments in its large project pipeline.

NHPC Advances Hydropower and Renewable Energy Projects

During FY 2025-26, NHPC made significant progress in its project development and clean energy initiatives.

Key developments included:

  • 1,720 MW Kamala HEP: Received CCEA approval.
  • 2,880 MW Dibang Multipurpose Project: Substantial progress achieved.
  • 3,097 MW Etalin HEP: MoA signed with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
  • 50 MW floating solar project: Progress made at West Kallada, Kerala.
  • 510 MW Teesta-V Power Station: Full restoration achieved in Sikkim.

The company also continued to advance its Pumped Storage and Renewable Energy portfolio as part of its broader clean energy strategy.

NHPC Marks Five Decades with 50th AGM

The 50th AGM marked an important milestone in NHPC’s five-decade journey. The company completed 50 years of its establishment and celebrated its Golden Jubilee in November 2025.

On the occasion, Gupta expressed gratitude to the Government of India, Central and State Governments, regulators, shareholders and other stakeholders for their continued support.

He also appreciated NHPC employees for their contribution to the company’s growth and reaffirmed that NHPC will build on its five decades of experience and expertise to contribute to a secure, sustainable and green energy future for the country.
