Guwahati: NHPC Limited reviewed the progress of its 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHEP) during a senior-level visit to the project site across Assam and Arunachal Pradesh from August 20 to 22, 2026.
NHPC Director (Technical) Suprakash Adhikari and Director (Finance) Mahesh Kumar Sharma visited key project facilities and reviewed ongoing electromechanical, hydro-mechanical and construction activities.
Manisha Shrivastava, Executive Director (Design–E&M), along with other senior officials from NHPC Corporate Office, Faridabad, accompanied the directors during the visit.
NHPC Reviews Power House, Dam and HRT Intake Works
During the three-day visit, NHPC’s senior officials inspected several important facilities of the Subansiri Lower project.
The inspection covered:
- Power House
- Dam site, including DT Inlet and Outlet areas
- HRT Intake area
- Ongoing electromechanical works
- Ongoing hydro-mechanical works
The team reviewed the overall progress of the project and assessed the status of ongoing construction and balance works.

Units 1-4 Under Commercial Operation
Project officials briefed the NHPC directors on the current power generation and commissioning status of the project.
According to the briefing:
- Units 1-4 are under commercial operation.
- Preparations are underway for the commissioning of Unit 5.
- Balance works for Units 6-8 are progressing.
- Other construction and project-related activities are also continuing.
Pradip Kumar Ray, Executive Director and Head of Subansiri Lower HE Project, briefed the NHPC directors on the project’s power generation status and the progress of the remaining works.
Rotor Assembly Begins for 250 MW Unit 7
A major milestone during the NHPC officials’ visit was the commencement of rotor assembly for Unit 7, which has an installed capacity of 250 MW.
The start of rotor assembly represents progress towards the erection and eventual commissioning of the unit.
The development is expected to add further momentum to the remaining works required for commissioning the eight-unit Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project.
Unit 5 Boxing-Up Completed in June
The latest Unit 7 milestone follows NHPC’s completion of boxing-up of Unit 5 of the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project on June 14, 2026.
The progress on Unit 5 and the commencement of rotor assembly for Unit 7 are part of NHPC’s ongoing efforts to complete the balance works and advance the commissioning of the remaining generating units.
Subansiri Lower Project Has 2,000 MW Installed Capacity
The Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project is located across Arunachal Pradesh and Assam and comprises eight generating units with a combined installed capacity of 2,000 MW.
With Units 1-4 already in commercial operation and work progressing on the remaining units, the project is moving towards completion of its full generation capacity.
The latest inspection by NHPC’s senior management focused on ensuring continued progress across the project’s civil, electromechanical and hydro-mechanical works.
