New Delhi: In a move aimed at advancing India’s clean energy transition, Oil India Limited (OIL) and Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate across the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) value chain and other emerging clean energy sectors.

The MoU was signed by the Executive Director (Business Development) of OIL and the Vice President (Business Development, BIS, Commercial & STU) of MGL, in the presence of senior officials, including OIL’s Director (Operations), Director (HR), and the Managing Director of MGL.

Collaboration to Explore LNG in Heavy-Duty Transport

The partnership will focus on identifying and developing joint opportunities in the LNG sector, particularly in the heavy-duty transport segment, which holds high potential for reducing carbon emissions in logistics.

Speaking on the collaboration, OIL’s Director (Operations) said, “The collaboration will focus on assessing technical and commercial viability of LNG in the heavy-duty transport segment and on exploring projects in clean energy. Our objective is to take feasible pilots to commercial scale.”

MGL’s Managing Director added, “This collaboration with OIL will help accelerate adoption of cleaner fuels in the long-haul transport sector. It will enable corporates to move towards greener logistics solutions and contribute to reducing the overall pollution footprint.”

Strengthening India’s Energy Goals

By leveraging OIL’s expertise in energy exploration and production and MGL’s experience in natural gas distribution and LNG retail, the partnership is expected to play a key role in scaling clean fuel alternatives and supporting India’s net-zero emission goals. The collaboration aligns with the national vision of decarbonizing transport and industrial energy usage through sustainable technologies.
