Ahmedabad: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has invited Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from technology providers for innovative non-chemical and non-thermal flow assurance solutions in its Ahmedabad Asset, India’s second-largest onshore oil-producing field.
Tackling Waxy Crude Challenges in SRP Wells
The initiative addresses a key operational issue in wells using Sucker Rod Pumps (SRPs). Waxy crude often causes sucker rod stuck-ups and disrupts production flow. Conventional mitigation techniques like chemical injection are not feasible in certain SRP completions. This leaves operators dependent on rig-based or rig-less interventions, raising downtime and operational costs.
Objectives of the EOI
ONGC aims to:
- Identify non-chemical, non-thermal technologies for SRP wells.
- Assess market readiness and vendor capabilities.
- Shortlist providers for free field trials in high-viscosity, wax-prone wells.

Scope of Work for Vendors
Vendors selected under the EOI must:
- Deploy solutions without chemical additives or external heating.
- Showcase proven performance in similar operating conditions.
- Conduct free field trials in designated ONGC wells.
- Track and report performance throughout the trial phase.
Driving Operational Innovation
Through this initiative, ONGC seeks sustainable and cost-effective alternatives to conventional flow assurance practices. The effort aligns with its larger focus on innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in upstream oil production.
