New Delhi: In a significant diplomatic move, the Government of India has appointed Paramita Tripathi, a seasoned 2001-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, as the next Ambassador of India to the State of Kuwait.
Currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Tripathi is expected to take up her assignment in Kuwait shortly. Her appointment reflects the growing strategic importance of Indo-Kuwaiti relations.
India-Kuwait Ties: A Strategic and Historic Partnership
India and Kuwait share long-standing and friendly ties, which were further elevated to a Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic visit to Kuwait in December 2024.
The two nations celebrated 60 years of diplomatic relations in 2021-22. The partnership continues to deepen, with over 30 bilateral agreements signed in various domains, ranging from defence to culture and finance.
Key Recent Agreements Between India and Kuwait
During PM Modi’s visit in 2024, several high-impact Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed:
- MoU on Defence Cooperation
- Cultural Exchange Programme (2025–2029)
- Executive Programme on Sports Cooperation (2025–2028)
In addition, Kuwait became a member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), signing the treaty in December 2024 and ratifying it in May 2025.
Two more key agreements were signed in July 2025:
- MoU between Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) of both countries (July 8)
- MoU on Civil Aviation Cooperation (July 15)
Recent Diplomatic Engagements
India and Kuwait held the 7th round of Foreign Office Consultations on August 26, 2025, in New Delhi. The meeting was co-chaired by:

Ambassador Sameeh Essa Johar Hayat, Assistant Foreign Minister for Asia Affairs, Kuwait
Ambassador Sameeh also met Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary (CPV & OIA), where both sides reviewed bilateral ties and discussed regional and global matters of shared interest.

The appointment of Paramita Tripathi is seen as part of India’s broader effort to implement the strategic roadmap laid out during PM Modi’s Kuwait visit. Her diplomatic expertise, especially in managing high-level bilateral relationships, is expected to bolster cooperation in:
