PESB Recommends Chitranjan Kumar as Director (Technical) of Eastern Coalfields Limited

Senior CCL official selected after interview of 12 candidates from Coal India subsidiaries and other PSUs for key technical leadership role at ECL.

New Delhi: The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Chitranjan Kumar for the post of Director (Technical) at Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), following a selection meeting held on April 22, 2026.

The meeting was conducted at 11:45 AM, where multiple senior executives from Coal India Limited (CIL) and its subsidiaries were interviewed for the crucial leadership role.

12 Senior Executives Interviewed for Top Technical Role

A total of 12 experienced candidates from major coal sector PSUs and allied organisations appeared before the selection board. The competition included senior officials from:

  • Coal India Limited (CIL)
  • Central Coalfields Limited (CCL)
  • South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL)
  • Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL)
  • Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL)
  • NTPC Limited
  • NLC India Limited

The selection process involved detailed evaluation of technical and managerial expertise.

Chitranjan Kumar Recommended for Key Leadership Position

Following the interviews, PESB recommended Chitranjan Kumar, who is currently serving as:

  • General Manager
  • Area General Manager, Magadh-Sanghamitra Area
  • Central Coalfields Limited (CCL)

He has been selected for his extensive experience in mining operations and technical management in the coal sector.

Role and Responsibilities at ECL

As Director (Technical) of Eastern Coalfields Limited, Chitranjan Kumar will:

  • Become a member of the Board of Directors
  • Report directly to the CMD of ECL
  • Oversee mining operations and field activities
  • Manage technical functions and safety compliance in mines

The role is considered critical for ensuring efficient coal production and operational safety.

PESB Selection Process and Approval Route

The PESB is the apex body responsible for recommending top-level appointments in Public Sector Enterprises. Its recommendations are forwarded to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for final approval.

The selection was made during PESB Meeting No. 32/2026, after a comprehensive evaluation of all candidates.
