New Delhi: The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has not recommended any candidate for the post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of National Textile Corporation Limited (NTC). The decision was taken during PESB Meeting No. 67/2026, held on August 4, 2026, following the selection interview for the top management position.
The PESB has advised the Ministry of Textiles, the administrative ministry of NTC, to take further action for the selection of the CMD, including through a Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC) or any other appropriate method with the approval of the competent authority.
PESB Finds No Candidate Suitable for NTC CMD Post
The selection interview for the post of NTC CMD was conducted by the PESB on August 4, 2026.
During the selection process, the Board considered the candidature of Ashutosh Gupta, Director (Human Resources) and holding additional charge of Director (Marketing) at NTC.
However, the PESB did not find his candidature suitable for appointment to the post of Chairman and Managing Director of the company.
As a result, the Board did not recommend any candidate for the CMD position.

Ministry of Textiles Advised to Take Further Action
Following the decision, the PESB has advised the Ministry of Textiles to decide on an appropriate course of action for filling the vacant CMD position.
The Ministry may proceed with the selection through:
- A Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC).
- Any other appropriate selection method.
- The process will be undertaken with the approval of the competent authority, as required.
The move is expected to pave the way for a fresh selection process to fill the top leadership position at NTC.
Padmini Singla Continues to Hold Additional Charge
The post of Chairman and Managing Director of NTC is currently vacant.
In the absence of a regular CMD, Smt. Padmini Singla (IAS), Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, continues to hold the additional charge of CMD, NTC.
The Ministry of Textiles is now expected to take further steps regarding the appointment of a regular CMD following the PESB’s latest decision.
