New Delhi: Petronet LNG Limited has appointed Mr. Deepak Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of GAIL (India) Limited, as a Nominee Director on its Board, effective March 18, 2026. The appointment was approved by Petronet LNG’s Board of Directors following recommendations from its Nomination and Remuneration Committee, reflecting the company’s focus on strengthening leadership and strategic initiatives in the LNG and natural gas sector.

Petronet LNG informed stock exchanges through a regulatory filing that the Nomination and Remuneration Committee had recommended Mr. Deepak Gupta’s appointment as a Nominee Director representing GAIL India Limited. The Board formally approved the appointment, effective immediately from March 18, 2026.
The company confirmed that Mr. Gupta holds no equity shares in Petronet LNG and has no inter-se relationship with any existing directors. He is not barred from holding office by SEBI or any other regulatory authority.
Profile of Mr. Deepak Gupta
Mr. Deepak Gupta is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from Delhi College of Engineering with over 35 years of experience across the Oil & Gas sector. He brings extensive expertise in project management, global procurement, technology selection, operations & maintenance, and business development.
He has led several high-impact initiatives both in India and abroad, including:
- India’s first greenfield refinery in Mongolia
- Mega petrochemical complex at Bathinda
- Landmark refinery projects in Nigeria
- Dabhol Breakwater Project for Konkan LNG Limited
Prior to his current role at GAIL, he spent 32 years at Engineers India Limited, managing complex large-scale projects internationally.

Since joining GAIL India Limited as Director (Projects) in February 2022, Mr. Gupta has overseen:
- Execution of natural gas and LPG pipelines
- Development of gas processing units
- Operations and maintenance of GAIL’s 20,000+ km pipeline network
- Green energy initiatives aligned with net-zero goals
He has also served as Chairman of Talcher Fertilizers Ltd., Director of ONGC Petro-additions Limited (OPaL), and former Chairman of Green Gas Limited and Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited, establishing a strong track record in project execution and strategic development.
