New Delhi: Petronet LNG Ltd, India’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) importer, reported a 5% year-on-year rise in net profit for the December quarter (Q3 FY26), driven by improved operational efficiencies and record capacity utilisation at its Kochi terminal.
Q3 FY26 Financial Highlights
- Net Profit: ₹848 crore vs ₹806 crore (↑5% YoY)
- Overall LNG Throughput: 228 trillion British thermal units (TBTU) (↑2% YoY)
The company attributed the improved quarterly performance to higher capacity utilisation and operational efficiency across its terminals.
Terminal-Wise Performance
Petronet operates two major LNG import terminals in India:
- Dahej Terminal (17.5 MMTPA) – Gujarat
- Kochi Terminal (5 MMTPA) – Kerala
Dahej Terminal
- Capacity Utilisation: 94% in Q3 FY26
- 92% in previous quarter
- 93% in Q3 FY25
- 92% in previous quarter
The Dahej terminal continued to operate at near-peak capacity, reinforcing its position as the backbone of India’s LNG imports.
Kochi Terminal Achieves Record Utilisation
- Capacity Utilisation: 29% (highest ever)
The Kochi terminal posted its best-ever quarterly performance. However, operations remain partially constrained due to limited pipeline connectivity for evacuation of gas to end-users.
Nine-Month Performance (April–December 2025)
Despite strong Q3 results, nine-month performance showed some moderation:
- Net Profit: ₹2,505 crore vs ₹2,856 crore (↓12% YoY)
- Dahej LNG Volume Processed: 632 TBTU vs 686 TBTU
- Total LNG Volume Processed: 682 TBTU vs 729 TBTU
The company processed lower volumes during the nine-month period compared to the previous fiscal year.
Operational Efficiency Drives Quarterly Growth
Petronet LNG stated that the robust financial performance in Q3 FY26 was supported by:
- Improved operational efficiencies
- Higher capacity utilisation at both terminals
- Record performance at the Kochi facility
The steady performance of the Dahej terminal and improving traction at Kochi contributed to the profit growth during the quarter.
