PM-eBus Sewa Covers 27,555 E-Buses; PLI Auto Scheme Draws ₹44,326 Crore Investment

The Centre has reported progress under the PM-eBus Sewa–PSM, PM E-DRIVE and PLI Auto schemes, with 523 e-buses deployed, ₹44,326 crore invested under PLI Auto and 67,820 jobs created.

New Delhi: The government has shared the latest progress of key electric mobility initiatives, including the PM-eBus Sewa–Payment Security Mechanism (PSM), PM E-DRIVE Scheme and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for the automobile sector. The update highlights advances in e-bus deployment, EV adoption, domestic manufacturing and Industry 4.0 initiatives.

The PLI Scheme for Automobile and Auto Component Industry aims to enhance India’s manufacturing capabilities for Advanced Automotive Technology (AAT) products.

PM-eBus Sewa Covers Over 27,000 E-Buses

As of 10 July 2026, the PM-eBus Sewa–PSM Scheme covers 27,555 e-buses against a target of 38,000.

The covered buses include:

  • 10,000 under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
  • 14,000 under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme of the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI).
  • 3,555 under State Government and State Transport Undertaking initiatives.

The government said 523 e-buses have been deployed under the PM-eBus Sewa–PSM Scheme. It also noted that 400 e-buses have been allocated to Odisha, although deployment had not begun as of 3 August 2026.

PLI Auto Scheme Attracts ₹44,326 Crore Investment

The government said the PLI Scheme for Automobile and Auto Components, launched in September 2021 with an outlay of ₹25,938 crore, has continued to strengthen India’s advanced automotive manufacturing ecosystem.

As of 31 March 2026, the scheme has achieved:

  • ₹44,326 crore in investment.
  • ₹52,414 crore in incremental sales.
  • 67,820 jobs generated.
  • ₹2,386.36 crore in incentives disbursed.

PM E-DRIVE Continues EV Incentives

The Ministry clarified that FAME India Phase II concluded on 31 March 2024 and that no FAME-III scheme is currently being implemented.

Instead, EV incentives are being provided through the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme, notified on 24 September 2024 with a total outlay of ₹10,900 crore.

SAMARTH Centres Promote Industry 4.0

The Ministry of Heavy Industries has established four Smart Advanced Manufacturing and Rapid Transformation Hub (SAMARTH) Centres to support Industry 4.0 technologies:

  • Centre for Industry 4.0 (C4i4), Pune.
  • IITD-AIA Foundation for Smart Manufacturing, IIT Delhi.
  • I-4.0 India, IISc Bengaluru.
  • Smart Manufacturing Demo & Development Cell, CMTI Bengaluru.

Since January 2023, these centres have:

  • Trained 33,751 people.
  • Received 26,372 visitors.
  • Conducted 332 training programmes.

The government also stated that there is currently no proposal to increase the number of Common Engineering Facility Centres under Phase II of the capital goods competitiveness scheme.
