Gurugram: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, celebrated its 36th Raising Day at Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, New Delhi. The event witnessed the presence of Mr Shripad Naik, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Power, New & Renewable Energy, along with Mr Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
The celebrations were led by Dr. R. K. Tyagi, CMD, and senior leadership including Shri G. Ravisankar, Director (Finance); Dr. Yatindra Dwivedi, Director (Personnel); Mr Naveen Srivastava, Director (Operations); and Mr Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra, Director (Projects). Employees and their families from over 300 locations across India participated in the festivities.
Union Minister Appreciates POWERGRID’s Journey
Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble Union Minister Shripad Naik lauded POWERGRID’s remarkable journey since its inception in 1989. He highlighted the organization’s transformation into a global leader in power transmission, praising its role in energy transition, grid modernization, technological innovation, and renewable integration.
The Minister emphasized that POWERGRID has consistently contributed to strengthening India’s energy infrastructure and ensuring reliable power supply to the nation, setting benchmarks for operational efficiency in the sector.
POWERGRID’s Achievements and Capabilities
As of 15th October 2025, POWERGRID has achieved significant milestones in India’s power sector –
- 287 substations commissioned and operational
- More than 1,80,864 circuit kilometers of transmission lines
- 5,81,831 MVA of transformation capacity
The organization has effectively leveraged automation, digital solutions, and advanced technological tools to maintain an average transmission system availability of 99.83%, ensuring uninterrupted power supply across regions.
