Prasanna Ramaswamy G IAS Transferred From J&K to Lakshadweep: Know About the 2010-Batch AGMUT Officer

The MHA has transferred 2010-batch AGMUT IAS officer Prasanna Ramaswamy G from Jammu and Kashmir to Lakshadweep with immediate effect and until further orders.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has transferred Prasanna Ramaswamy G, a 2010-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, from Jammu and Kashmir to Lakshadweep.

The transfer has been ordered with immediate effect and until further orders.

Ramaswamy was serving as Commissioner/Secretary of the Tribal Affairs Department in the Jammu and Kashmir Government before the latest move.

The transfer brings a new administrative assignment for the officer, who has held several responsibilities in Jammu and Kashmir during his career.

Who Is Prasanna Ramaswamy G?

Prasanna Ramaswamy G is an Indian Administrative Service officer of the 2010 batch belonging to the AGMUT cadre.

Born on February 27, 1987, he entered the IAS through direct recruitment and has served in different administrative capacities during his career.

He holds a B.Tech degree from SASTRA University, Tamil Nadu, and a postgraduate degree from Mumbai University. He is proficient in English and Tamil.

His career has included assignments in Jammu and Kashmir, where he has handled important portfolios involving administration, revenue and tribal affairs.

Served as Commissioner/Secretary, Tribal Affairs in J&K

Before his transfer to Lakshadweep, Ramaswamy was serving as Commissioner/Secretary of the Tribal Affairs Department, Jammu and Kashmir.

He took charge of the department in January 2026.

The Tribal Affairs Department deals with a range of issues concerning the welfare and development of tribal communities, including implementation of government schemes, development programmes and infrastructure-related initiatives.

During his tenure, Ramaswamy was involved in the administration of programmes aimed at improving welfare and development outcomes for tribal communities in the Union Territory.

Earlier Assignment in J&K Revenue Department

Ramaswamy has also served in the Revenue Department of Jammu and Kashmir.

His responsibilities in the department included handling administrative matters and participating in initiatives related to public grievance redressal.

His stint in the Revenue Department added to his experience in dealing with land and revenue administration, an important component of governance in Jammu and Kashmir.

Other Administrative Responsibilities

The 2010-batch officer has held several positions during his career, including assignments as Secretary, Administrative Secretary and Director, besides his initial period as a probationer.

His career trajectory reflects experience across different areas of government administration rather than being confined to a single sector.

He has also undergone the regular civil services training process associated with the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA).

Now Posted to Lakshadweep

With the latest MHA order, Prasanna Ramaswamy G has been moved from Jammu and Kashmir to Lakshadweep.

The order takes effect immediately and will remain in force until further orders.

As an AGMUT-cadre officer, his cadre assignments can span multiple States and Union Territories covered under the AGMUT framework. The cadre includes Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and various Union Territories, including Jammu and Kashmir and Lakshadweep.

The latest transfer therefore represents another significant field assignment in his administrative career.

His move to Lakshadweep will add another Union Territory assignment to his administrative experience and comes as part of the Centre’s ongoing management of the AGMUT cadre.

The 2010-batch officer now moves to a new administrative environment in Lakshadweep, where he will take up responsibilities under the Union Territory administration as directed by the MHA.
