Two Maharatna PSUs NHPC Limited and NTPC Limited marked their 50th Raising Day and entry into their Golden Jubilee year with a grand joint celebration at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on Saturday. The event, attended by Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Mr. Manohar Lal Khattar, celebrated the organizations’ contributions to India’s power sector since their founding on November 7th, 1975.
In his address, the Minister congratulated both organizations for their invaluable role in providing stable power and supporting India’s sustainable development. He highlighted their commitment to energy security and economic growth.
Secretary (Power) Mr. Pankaj Agarwal (1992-batch IAS officer) praised NHPC and NTPC for transforming India’s energy sector and advancing clean energy solutions. NHPC CMD Mr. RK Chaudhary reflected on the company’s achievements since 1975, including its Navratna status and ongoing focus on green energy, with an installed capacity exceeding 7,000 MW.
NTPC CMD Mr. Gurdeep Singh also congratulated the workforce, emphasizing NTPC’s role as a key driver of India’s energy security and growth. He noted the company’s continued commitment to innovation, sustainability, and community empowerment.
During the event, the Minister launched two special publications: NHPC’s comic book Jal se Jyoti, aimed at educating children about hydropower, and NTPC’s coffee table book Samathvam, which chronicles NTPC’s journey over 50 years, showcasing its contributions to energy security and environmental stewardship.
