Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has said that upcoming biogas projects by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) will play a crucial role in managing agricultural waste, supporting farmers, and generating new employment opportunities in the state.
The statement came after the Chief Minister met HPCL Chairman and Managing Director Vikas Kaushal in Chandigarh to review new investments in Punjab’s energy and petroleum sectors.
HPCL to Set Up 10 Biogas Plants in Punjab
According to an official statement, HPCL is working on establishing 10 biogas plants across Punjab, out of which five have already become operational.
These projects are expected to:
- Help manage crop residue and agricultural waste
- Promote cleaner and sustainable energy production
- Support rural income generation
- Create new job opportunities for youth
Focus on Crop Residue Management and Clean Energy
CM Mann highlighted that the biogas initiatives will help address the long-standing issue of stubble and crop residue management in Punjab.
He said the projects will not only reduce environmental pollution but also convert agricultural waste into useful energy, benefiting both farmers and the environment.
Boost to Employment and Industrial Investment
The Chief Minister said HPCL’s interest in investing in refinery and biogas projects will significantly boost economic activity in Punjab.
He added that these investments will:
- Strengthen industrial growth
- Create fresh employment opportunities
- Support energy sector expansion
Government Assures Full Support to HPCL
Bhagwant Mann assured HPCL of full cooperation from the Punjab government and reiterated the state’s commitment to promoting industrial investment.
He said Punjab is actively working to become one of the most preferred destinations for industry and investment in India.
