Indian Masterminds Stories

Amritsar, Punjab: Amid the ongoing flood crisis in Punjab, a powerful moment of humanity and leadership has gone viral on social media – showing IAS officer Sakshi Sawhney, Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar, and SSP Maninder Singh, 2019 batch IPS officer, compassionately persuading an elderly man to leave his flood-hit home.

The 2014-batch IAS officer, known for her hands-on approach, was seen gently convincing the reluctant man, who was visibly emotional about leaving his ancestral home. Her words – “Baba ji, chaliye… aapki jaan sabse keemti hai” (Let’s go, your life is most precious) – have resonated deeply across the country.

Emotional Evacuation Sparks Praise Across Social Media

In the widely circulated video, the elderly resident refuses to leave despite rising water levels, until DC Sawhney, with utmost empathy and firmness, manages to assure him of safety and dignity. The man eventually agrees, moved by her warmth and concern.

Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia shared the video on Instagram, writing,

“The spirit of duty and humanity amidst the havoc of floods… this is not just a rescue scene, it is a reflection of public service at its best.”

Local Residents Laud Officer’s Sensitivity

Locals have praised the IAS-IPS duo for their active presence and genuine concern for people on the ground. Residents said such humane actions by public servants restore faith in the administration.

Social media users echoed similar sentiments, calling it an example of “sensitivity meeting service” and “real leadership in action.”

One comment read – “This is why we still believe in the system – officers who don’t just issue orders but show up with heart and courage.”
