Punjab Govt Transfers 29 Police Officers Ahead of Municipal Polls; IPS Anubhav Jain Posted to Ludhiana

Chandigarh: In a significant administrative reshuffle ahead of the upcoming elections to several municipal corporations and municipal councils, the Bhagwant Mann led Punjab government has transferred 29 officers, including one Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, with immediate effect.

The transfer orders, issued on May 11, 2026, cover officers posted across multiple districts and specialised wings, including Intelligence, Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), PAP battalions, and district police units. All officers have been directed to assume charge of their new postings without delay.

The move is being seen as part of the state government’s strategy to strengthen law and order and ensure efficient policing during the forthcoming local body elections.

IPS Anubhav Jain Shifted to Ludhiana

Among the officers transferred, the only IPS officer in the list is Anubhav Jain.

A 2020-batch IPS officer, Anubhav Jain has been transferred from the post of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Sub Division East, Amritsar, to Assistant Superintendent of Police, Sub Division Industrial Area-B, Ludhiana.

Ludhiana, being Punjab’s largest industrial city, is considered one of the most sensitive and strategically important police districts in the state.

28 DSP and PPS Officers Given New Assignments

In addition to the IPS officer, 28 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and Punjab Police Service (PPS) officers have been assigned new responsibilities across districts and specialised units.

  • Satwinder Singh as DSP SD Mehal Kalan, Barnala
  • Jaspal Singh as DSP SD Malout, Sri Muktsar Sahib
  • Sanjiv Singla as DSP SD City-1, Patiala
  • Rahul Kaushal as DSP PBI NDPS-cum-Narcotics, Moga
  • Dev Dutt as DSP Intelligence Wing, Punjab
  • Prabhjot Kaur as DSP 13th Battalion PAP, Chandigarh, attached with ANTF Punjab
  • Manmohan Sharma as DSP Headquarters, Moga
  • Davinder Singh as DSP SD Tanda, Hoshiarpur
  • Sukhpal Singh as DSP SD Baba Bakala, Amritsar Rural and DSP ANTF-1, Border Range, Amritsar

The transfers come at a crucial time as Punjab prepares for municipal corporation and council elections. Such reshuffles are routinely undertaken to ensure impartial policing, improve field-level supervision, and enhance operational efficiency during election periods.

By deploying experienced officers to key urban and border districts, the Punjab Police aims to strengthen law enforcement and maintain public confidence throughout the electoral process.

Punjab Police Continues Focus on Anti-Narcotics and Intelligence

Several officers have been posted to anti-drug and intelligence units, reflecting the Punjab government’s continued focus on combating narcotics trafficking and strengthening internal security.
