Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has approved a substantial allocation of ₹2,000 crore for the Chief Minister Sehat Yojana, the state’s flagship healthcare scheme for economically vulnerable families. The move aims to ensure that families do not delay essential medical treatment due to financial constraints, providing cashless treatment up to ₹10 lakh in government and empaneled private hospitals across Punjab.
The scheme now covers approximately 65 lakh families, benefiting nearly 3 crore residents, and provides financial protection against high medical expenses arising from serious illnesses.
Expanding Access to Healthcare Across Punjab
The Chief Minister highlighted that the increased budget allocation will significantly enhance the scheme’s reach and accessibility. He said, “Families should not have to worry about finances before seeking treatment. Our goal is simple: every household in Punjab should have the assurance of quality healthcare when needed.”
Since its inception, the Chief Minister Sehat Yojana has addressed critical concerns for families: how quickly treatment can begin and how medical expenses will be managed. With growing registrations, the scheme has become a key instrument for improving health security in Punjab.

Extensive Coverage and Benefits
So far, over 9 lakh Sehat Cards have been issued, enabling beneficiaries to access treatment at more than 820 empaneled government and private hospitals. Currently, the scheme offers 2,300+ treatment packages, covering major medical procedures, including:
- Heart disease
- Cancer treatments
- Kidney-related ailments
- Orthopedic procedures
- Accident-related injuries
The scheme ensures that medical decisions are based on treatment necessity rather than family finances, providing economic relief and timely access to healthcare.
Strengthening Healthcare Infrastructure
Punjab has also bolstered its healthcare workforce in recent years, with the recruitment of over 1,500 doctors, including more than 600 specialists and 900 general practitioners, accounting for approximately 35% of the state’s current doctor workforce.
The government encourages eligible citizens to register for Sehat Cards at nearby service centers or Common Service Centers to avail themselves of cashless treatment. Awareness campaigns are being conducted by trained youth club members, who are assisting households in obtaining their Sehat Cards.
CM Mann’s Vision for Accessible Healthcare
CM Bhagwant Mann emphasized that the Chief Minister Sehat Yojana has transformed healthcare access in Punjab. Thousands of families that previously faced financial hardship during medical emergencies can now receive timely and quality treatment without economic stress.
“This initiative is a critical step towards inclusive healthcare, ensuring that Punjab’s residents receive necessary treatment without delay,” he added.
With this enhanced allocation, the Chief Minister Sehat Yojana is poised to become one of the largest health protection programs in India, offering financial security and quality healthcare to millions of vulnerable families across the state.
