New Delhi/Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has extended the suspension of senior IPS officer and former CID Chief P.V. Sunil Kumar by another six months, following recommendations by a high-level review committee. The decision comes amid ongoing investigations into serious charges of unauthorised foreign travel and custodial torture.
According to an official notification, the suspension will now remain in effect for 180 days — until February 24, 2026, or until further orders, under Rule 3(8)(d) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969.
The review committee, after a detailed assessment, concluded that revoking the suspension at this stage could potentially allow the officer to tamper with evidence or influence the ongoing inquiry. The State Director General of Police (DGP) has been directed to initiate necessary follow-up action.

Allegations and Background
Mr. Sunil Kumar, a 1993-batch IPS officer, was initially suspended in early 2025 for unauthorised international visits and deviations from government-sanctioned travel plans during his previous assignments. Investigators flagged multiple violations of service conduct rules, especially related to overseas travel without prior approval.
In addition to the administrative violations, he is also facing criminal allegations related to the custodial torture of former Narasapuram MP K. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju. A formal case has been filed by the Nagarampalem Police in Guntur district in connection with the incident.
Continued Oversight
This marks the second extension of Mr. Sunil Kumar’s suspension as authorities continue a multi-layered probe into his conduct during the YSRCP-led administration. His alleged actions have raised questions around procedural accountability and governance standards within the state’s top law enforcement ranks.
The government’s decision reinforces its intent to uphold discipline within the civil services and ensure an impartial inquiry, free from interference.
