Raipur: Chhattisgarh has achieved a historic milestone in public health as the Integrated Public Health Laboratory (IPHL) at the District Hospital, Raipur, became the first laboratory in India to receive the prestigious National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification. The announcement drew congratulations from Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, who lauded the state government for setting a new benchmark in quality public health services.
Raipur IPHL: Pioneering Quality Standards
In a formal communication to Chhattisgarh Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Union Health Minister Mr. Nadda emphasized that the certification reflects the state’s growing capacity to provide reliable, quality-assured diagnostic services. He described the achievement as a testament to the dedication of healthcare workers at the Raipur District Hospital and the state government’s commitment to strengthening public health systems.
The NQAS certification confirms that the laboratory has successfully integrated trained human resources, modern equipment, and upgraded infrastructure, meeting national standards for quality assurance. This recognition positions Raipur IPHL as a model laboratory for other states to emulate.
Strengthening Public Health Infrastructure Through PM-ABHIM
Mr. Nadda highlighted that the establishment of Integrated Public Health Laboratories is a key component of the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM). The initiative aims to enhance health surveillance, laboratory networks, and diagnostic preparedness across India.
He added that the core objective of the mission is to ensure quality-assured, hospital-specific, and disease-specific laboratory diagnoses, which are critical for effective healthcare delivery. The Raipur IPHL now serves as a benchmark for other states, demonstrating the successful integration of infrastructure, workforce, and quality protocols.
CM Vishnu Deo Sai Reaffirms Commitment to Healthcare Excellence
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai welcomed the recognition and thanked the Union Government for its ongoing support to Chhattisgarh’s health sector. He emphasized that the achievement reflects the state government’s commitment to strengthening public health systems and ensuring wider access to quality laboratory and diagnostic services across all districts.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that this milestone reflects India’s broader transition toward technology-enabled, standards-driven public health systems, enhancing both institutional maturity and the culture of quality assurance in healthcare institutions.
