Jaipur: Rajasthan’s administrative machinery is set to receive significant reinforcement this year as the state will get 28 new IAS officers, helping address the long-standing shortage of officers in the bureaucracy. These appointments will take place through three different channels—promotion from the State Service, direct recruitment through the Civil Services Examination, and induction from other services.

Current Strength of IAS Cadre in Rajasthan

Rajasthan has a sanctioned cadre strength of 332 IAS officers, but currently only 278 officers are in service, creating a noticeable gap in administrative capacity. With the induction of 28 new IAS officers, the working strength will increase to around 300 officers.

However, this number will not remain static, as 15 IAS officers are also due to retire this year, which will once again impact the overall strength of the cadre.

18 IAS Officers to Be Promoted from State Service (RAS)

According to the Personnel Department, the majority of the new IAS officers—18 in total—will come through promotion from the Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS).

In 2025, 15 IAS officers who were earlier promoted from the State Service retired, creating vacancies. As a result, 15 eligible RAS officers will be considered for promotion to the IAS this year.

In addition, three promotions against 2024 vacancies could not be completed last year due to procedural delays. The promotion process for these officers will be completed in 2026.

Combining both, Rajasthan will get 18 IAS officers through promotion from the State Service.

Four IAS Officers from Other Services Likely This Month

The state is also likely to receive four IAS officers promoted from other state services against the 2024 vacancies, possibly within the current month.

The promotion process is in its final stage. Interviews of 20 officers from various state services have already been conducted. Following the recommendations, the Chief Minister has approved the promotion of four officers.

After approval from the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), the Central Department of Personnel is expected to issue a notification soon announcing the names of these officers.

Rajasthan to Get 6 IAS Officers Through CSE-2024

Rajasthan will also benefit from direct recruitment through the Civil Services Examination-2024. The central government has allocated 180 IAS officers nationwide from CSE-2024, and state-wise allocation has been finalized.

  • Under this allocation, Rajasthan will receive six IAS officers.
  • Two officers will be from Rajasthan
  • One from the OBC category
  • One from the ST category
  • Four officers will be from other states
  • Three from the OBC category
  • One from the General category

These officers will join the Rajasthan cadre after completing their training.

Extension of IAS Officer Bishnu Charan Malik’s Deputation

Meanwhile, the central deputation tenure of IAS officer Bishnu Charan Malik has been extended by the central government. Malik is currently serving as the Director of Census Operations and Director of Citizen Registration in Rajasthan.

According to the order issued by the Central Department of Personnel, his deputation has been extended for three months, until March 31, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Administrative Strengthening Expected

With promotions, direct recruitment, and officers from other services, the induction of 28 IAS officers is expected to strengthen governance, improve administrative efficiency, and ease the workload on existing officers. Despite upcoming retirements, the move is seen as a crucial step toward stabilizing Rajasthan’s bureaucratic structure.
