Bhopal: Police searching for caretaker Varun Kumar, the prime suspect in the murder of Rakesh Agrawal, a retired 1982-batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, have traced his latest location to Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh, according to the latest investigation updates.
Police had earlier traced Kumar’s movements to Agra and the Agra-Mathura route. Investigators are now examining CCTV footage and technical-location data to reconstruct his movements after he allegedly fled Bhopal following the September 30 incident.
CCTV Footage Used to Trace Movements
A newly obtained CCTV clip reportedly shows Kumar travelling towards a railway station after changing vehicles. Investigators are connecting this footage with previously collected CCTV recordings and mobile-phone data to establish his route.

Police believe Kumar travelled from Agra towards Vrindavan using passenger vehicles. Investigators are also examining locations along the Agra-Mathura-Vrindavan route to determine where he went after reaching the area.
Police have announced a ₹50,000 reward for information leading to Kumar’s arrest. Multiple teams from Bhopal Police, including Crime Branch and Zone-I units, are searching for him across several states.

Police Question Family Members
A police team also travelled to Patiala as part of the search and questioned Kumar’s sister. Investigators are seeking information about his contacts and possible locations after the incident.
Police had earlier questioned Kumar’s father, sister and brother-in-law. According to investigators, family members told them that they had not been in contact with Kumar recently.
Agrawal’s Mobile Phone Traced to Agra
Investigators have also been examining the mobile phone belonging to Rakesh Agrawal. According to police sources cited in earlier reports, Kumar allegedly took the phone after the incident and handed it to an acquaintance after reaching Agra.
Police subsequently examined the phone’s activity and an older mobile number associated with Kumar. The resulting technical leads helped investigators trace his movements towards the Agra-Mathura region.
Retired IAS Officer Killed at Bhopal Residence
Rakesh Agrawal, was found dead at his residence in Bhopal’s Suraj Nagar area on September 30. Police said he had suffered a sharp-edged weapon injury to the neck.
Kumar had been hired through a healthcare agency only a few days before the incident and went missing afterwards. Police have identified him as the prime suspect and have continued searching for him.
The investigation remains ongoing, with police examining CCTV footage, technical evidence and Kumar’s movements to locate him and establish the circumstances surrounding Agrawal’s death.
