New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has laid the foundation stone for a ₹75.40 crore road and drainage redevelopment project in the Wazirpur Industrial Area. The initiative aims to address long-standing waterlogging issues, improve basic infrastructure, and transform the industrial zone into a modern, pollution-free business hub.
The project was launched in the A-Block of Wazirpur Industrial Area in the presence of local MLA Poonam Sharma and other officials.
5.77 km Roads and 11.54 km Drainage Network to Be Upgraded
Under the project, approximately:
- 5.77 km of internal roads will be redeveloped
- 11.54 km stormwater drainage system will be constructed and improved
The work will be executed by the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC).
Officials said the project will significantly reduce waterlogging and strengthen the area’s core infrastructure, benefiting industries and local businesses.

Long-Standing Waterlogging Problem to Be Solved
CM Rekha Gupta said Wazirpur Industrial Area has faced persistent issues of damaged roads, poor drainage, and severe waterlogging during monsoons.
She stated that the new stormwater drainage system will provide a permanent solution, ensuring efficient rainwater disposal and smoother functioning of industrial activities even during heavy rainfall.
Underground Utility Ducts to Prevent Repeated Road Digging
The Chief Minister emphasized that the project is not limited to road and drainage construction. It also includes the development of underground utility ducts.
This system will allow maintenance of essential services without repeated road digging, reducing inconvenience and saving both time and public resources.
Industrial Growth, Employment and Pollution Control Focus
CM Gupta said the redevelopment of Wazirpur Industrial Area will boost industrial productivity, trade, and local employment opportunities.
The project also includes landscaping and plantation work to make the area greener, cleaner, and more environmentally friendly.
She reiterated that the government is committed to balancing industrial growth with environmental protection.
Wazirpur to Become a Model Industrial Area
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that once completed, the project will transform Wazirpur into one of Delhi’s most modern and well-organized industrial zones.
She said the upgraded infrastructure will also serve as a model for other industrial areas across the capital.
Over ₹200 Crore Development Works Approved in Wazirpur
CM Rekha Gupta also highlighted that development projects worth over ₹200 crore have already been sanctioned for the Wazirpur Assembly area.
She mentioned ongoing works including a major Chhath Ghat project near Inderlok Metro Station to Haiderpur stretch, developed at a cost of around ₹40 crore, along with construction of two key bridges.
The government also aims to develop 100 Atal Canteens across Delhi, with two already operational in Wazirpur, offering subsidized meals at ₹5.
Healthcare and Public Welfare Initiatives
The Chief Minister added that five Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have been set up in the area to provide primary healthcare services and reduce dependency on large hospitals for minor ailments.

The ₹75.40 crore project marks a significant step toward upgrading Delhi’s industrial infrastructure. With improved roads, modern drainage systems, and environmental planning, the initiative is expected to enhance industrial efficiency, reduce flooding issues, and promote sustainable urban development in Wazirpur.
