There has been another development in the tussle between IAS officer Rohini Sindhuri and IPS officer D Roopa. The apex court has given yet another opportunity to the officers of Karnataka to settle their differences and barred them from making public statements on the case. In the hearing on January 12, SC said, “An interim stay granted on December 15, 2023, on criminal defamation proceedings brought by Sindhuri against Roopa would continue”.
In the order, the Supreme Court pointed out that one more opportunity is granted to the contesting parties to work out a solution which will be in the interest of both of them. “Considering the fact that we are making an attempt to resolve all the disputes pending between the parties, none of them shall give any interview or any information to the media, social and print, in any form,” said the court.
Notably, a public dispute unfolded between IAS Sindhuri and IPS Roopa, with allegations of unauthorized release of sensitive photographs and videos of IAS Sindhuri. Ms. Roopa also accused Ms. Rohini of unethical behavior and sending inappropriate pictures to male bureaucrats. Whereas, Ms. Sindhuri alleged that Ms. Roopa had linked her with male officers, damaging her reputation. She also accused Ms. Roopa of making derogatory comments against her family.
Before the stay order, a Supreme Court bench led by Justice Abhay S Oka addressed the dispute and called for administrative harmony and a swift resolution to their public feud. The bench also directed D. Roopa to delete alleged defamatory posts from social media platforms within 24 hours and issue an apology.
