New Delhi: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has emerged as the Lowest Bidder (L1) for a ₹129.46 crore EPC contract awarded by the North Eastern Railway for traction substation works in the Varanasi–Prayagraj section of the Varanasi Division. The company confirmed the development through a regulatory filing dated 20 May 2026.
Project Involves Traction Substations and Power Supply Upgrade
The project includes the design, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of traction substations along with associated switching posts.
It will support the 2×25 KV AT traction feeding system, aimed at strengthening electric traction power supply infrastructure and improving operational efficiency on the busy railway corridor.

₹129.46 Crore EPC Contract with 730-Day Execution Timeline
The total contract value is approximately ₹129.46 crore (including applicable taxes). The project has been awarded under the Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) model through a competitive bidding process.
RVNL will complete the project within 730 days (around two years) from the date of award. The contract is domestic in nature and falls under the company’s normal course of business.
Boost to Rail Connectivity and Network Efficiency
The electrification upgrade is expected to enhance traction power reliability, train movement efficiency, and line capacity on the Varanasi–Prayagraj route.
The project will also support smoother rail operations and improve overall network performance in the North Eastern Railway zone.
No Related Party Transaction Involved
RVNL clarified that the contract does not involve any related party transactions. There is no interest of promoters, promoter group, or related entities in the awarding authority.
The company also stated that the order is part of its regular business operations.
Regulatory Filing and Disclosure
The information was disclosed to stock exchanges under Regulation 30 on 20 May 2026, in compliance with SEBI disclosure norms.
