New Delhi: The New Plate Mill at SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has achieved its strongest September performance, setting new records in both plate production and dispatch during September 2026.
The mill produced 94,517 tonnes of plates and dispatched 90,237 tonnes during the month, marking the highest-ever figures for September as well as the best performance recorded in any 30-day period.
New Plate Mill Records Highest-Ever September Production
The New Plate Mill produced 94,517 tonnes of plates in September 2026, surpassing its previous best September production of 83,862 tonnes, recorded in September 2025.
The September 2026 output also established a new record for production in any 30-day period.
The mill exceeded its earlier 30-day production record of 89,224 tonnes, achieved in June 2026.

SAIL Rourkela New Plate Mill Sets Dispatch Record
The New Plate Mill also achieved a new dispatch milestone in September.
The mill dispatched 90,237 tonnes of plates during the month, making it the highest-ever September dispatch and the highest dispatch recorded for any 30-day period.
The previous best September dispatch was 88,825 tonnes, recorded in September 2023.

The strong dispatch performance complemented the record production achieved during the month and reflected the mill’s improved operational performance.
New Plate Mill Records Strong Half-Year Production
The New Plate Mill also maintained a strong production performance during the first half of the current financial year.
Despite undergoing 11 days of capital repairs, the mill produced 5,05,519 tonnes of plates during the first six months of the financial year.
This was higher than the 5,03,933 tonnes produced during the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
The performance indicates that the mill was able to maintain production momentum despite the scheduled capital repair period.
Rourkela Steel Plant Leadership Congratulates Team
Alok Verma, Director-in-Charge, Rourkela Steel Plant, congratulated the New Plate Mill team and all supporting departments for the record performance.
He emphasised that continuous improvement and sustained growth are important for long-term profitability. He also encouraged the team to maintain the momentum and continue focusing on operational excellence.

Achieving record production and dispatch in the same month, while also maintaining higher half-year output despite capital repairs, demonstrates the coordinated efforts of the workforce and supporting teams.
The performance further strengthens Rourkela Steel Plant’s contribution to SAIL’s overall steel production and plate manufacturing operations.
