New Delhi: The Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), with a presence in Canada and Geneva, have launched ‘PSUs for PLANET’, an initiative aimed at strengthening the energy transition of public sector enterprises (PSEs).

Following a recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two organisations, SCOPE and IISD convened a workshop on ‘Climate-Related Disclosures for PSEs’. The session brought together stakeholders to deliberate on climate-related reporting and the role of public enterprises in advancing the energy transition.

The workshop was addressed by Atul Sobti, Director General of SCOPE, and Christopher Beaton, Director of the Energy Program at IISD.

‘PSUs for PLANET’ to Support Energy Transition

The initiative operates under the title ‘Practitioners’ Learning and Action Network on Energy Transition (PLANET) for PSUs’. It is designed to provide a platform for public sector enterprises, practitioners, experts and other stakeholders to discuss key issues related to the energy transition.

Through focused workshops and deliberations, the network aims to encourage the exchange of knowledge, identify practical solutions and help build a unified voice among stakeholders working on energy transition-related issues.

The initiative will focus on pertinent subjects affecting public enterprises as they respond to evolving climate priorities and the need for more effective climate-related disclosures.

Workshop Focuses on Climate-Related Disclosures

The inaugural workshop focused on climate-related disclosures for public sector enterprises. Such disclosures can help organisations communicate information about climate-related risks, opportunities and their potential implications for business strategy and operations.

The discussions form part of the broader effort to bring practitioners and experts together to examine issues relevant to the energy transition and identify approaches that public enterprises can consider in their own contexts.

SCOPE and IISD intend for the learning network to facilitate continued engagement, enabling participants to share experience and explore solutions through structured discussions.

Bringing Public Enterprises and Experts Together

Described by the organisations as a first-of-its-kind initiative, ‘PSUs for PLANET’ seeks to create a collaborative platform for public enterprises and other stakeholders to engage with the challenges and opportunities associated with the energy transition.

By combining practitioner experience with expert input, the initiative aims to encourage informed discussions and practical action on relevant subjects, beginning with climate-related disclosures.

The launch marks a new area of collaboration between SCOPE and IISD following their MoU, with the network intended to support dialogue and knowledge-sharing among public sector enterprises as they navigate the transition.
