ACC Empanels 2010 Batch IAS Officer Shankar Lal Kumawat for Joint Secretary-Level Posts

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the empanelment of Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer Shankar Lal Kumawat for holding Joint Secretary or equivalent-level positions in the Government of India. The empanelment marks a key career milestone for the 2010-batch officer, who is currently serving as Director in the Department of Revenue at the Centre.

ACC Clears JS-Level Empanelment

According to the official decision, Mr Kumawat (IAS:2010:TN) has been empanelled to hold Joint Secretary or equivalent posts in the Government of India.

Empanelment at the Joint Secretary level enables senior IAS officers to be considered for leadership roles in various ministries and departments of the Central Government.

Kumawat is presently serving as Director in the Department of Revenue, a position he assumed in February 2025.

Part of 2010 Batch Empanelment Process

Notably, the Government of India had earlier empanelled 24 IAS officers of the 2010 batch on February 4, 2026, for holding Joint Secretary or equivalent-level posts at the Centre.

The empanelment process evaluates officers based on experience, performance record, administrative capabilities, and seniority before approving them for senior positions in the Union Government.

Administrative Career and Key Roles

IAS Kumawat has served in several important administrative roles during his career in the Tamil Nadu cadre.

One of his notable assignments includes serving as Additional Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu, where he played a key role in managing electoral administration and coordination during elections.

Over the years, he has been involved in administrative governance, public service delivery, and electoral management, building significant experience in both state and central government assignments.

Current Assignment in the Central Government

Since February 2025, Kumawat has been working as Director in the Department of Revenue, Government of India.

The department functions under the Ministry of Finance and deals with matters related to taxation policy, revenue administration, and financial regulation.

His current role involves policy coordination and administrative responsibilities related to the revenue sector.
