Shimla: SJVN Limited has achieved a major renewable energy milestone with the successful declaration of the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of its 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project in Rajasthan. The announcement was made by Mr. Bhupender Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, SJVN, who termed the commissioning a significant step in the company’s journey towards strengthening the nation’s clean power generation capacity.
Congratulating the entire SJVN team, Mr. Gupta said the achievement reflects the organisation’s technical excellence and the collective dedication of employees, contractors and stakeholders involved in the project’s execution.
Project Details and Power Generation Potential
The 1,000 MW solar project is located in the Bikaner district of Rajasthan, one of India’s highest solar irradiation zones, and is being implemented through SJVN’s wholly owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL). In its first year of operation, the project is expected to generate about 2,454.55 million units (MU) of electricity, with cumulative generation estimated at nearly 56,838 MU over 25 years.
Power from the project will be supplied to the states of Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand, helping meet rising energy demand through sustainable sources.

Affordable and Indigenous Green Power
The maximum usage charge for electricity generated from the Bikaner Solar Power Project has been fixed at ₹2.57 per unit, ensuring the availability of affordable green power for consumers. The project has been developed at a total cost of approximately ₹5,492 crore on around 5,000 acres of outright-purchased land near Village Banderwala in Bikaner.
Implemented under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) mode, the project uses domestically manufactured solar photovoltaic cells and modules, supporting the Government of India’s Make in India initiative and strengthening the domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem.
Environmental and National Impact
Beyond energy generation, the project is expected to deliver significant environmental benefits, including an estimated reduction of around 27.85 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions. The commissioning of this large-scale solar project also contributes directly to India’s ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
Mr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), SJVN, highlighted that the successful commissioning underscores SJVN’s growing role in India’s renewable energy transition and its commitment to sustainable development.
